Tropes and Genres You've Never Heard Of Before

Im sure if i read the dictionary, there would be more than dozens of words I've never heard of before. My point for this thread are tropes and genres you've come across organically. I was in an ARC group (a group requesting and promotiong Advanced Reader Copies), and 4 different authors were...

Tropes and Genres You've Never Heard Of Before

The Black Cat trope. Usually a FMC in a romantic coupling who is introverted, mysterious, and aloof. (Normally paired with the "Goldren Retriever" Boyfriend trope. I already knew of the GR Boyfriend trope, btw)

Tropes and Genres You've Never Heard Of Before

I had a Genres You've Never Heard Of thread going on thenold forum that came about as I queried agents. They'd list super specific or designer genres that i never knew existed (example, Female Rage genre.... apprently I've read a couple but never knew it got sorted into its own genre) I want to...

    Canon of Friend

Whats interesting about this is... bei g on a team for so long, i never saw my teammates as "friends." I liked some of them, i woukd socialize with the ones that i liked. But outside of team functions, i never really associated with them. I had that separation: teammate vs friend. I was actually...

    Canon of Friend

Unless how they became friends is important to the story, it doesnt matter how their friendship started. These are important to the stories The key takeaway is to write what is important to the story. Spongebob doesnt need patrick on his adventures. Harry needs ron and hermoine on his. It...

    Character The tomboy trope

My husband (and a lot of the officers) take jui jitsu and other forms of martial arts so they can learn to disarm and incapacitate someone without a weapon. My husband played lacrosse and soccer in HS and college. Training in jui jitsu, he's not that flexible, so that part is hard for him.

    Character The tomboy trope

Being athletic and being able to fight are 2 different things. Does misako play a sport, or does misako train in combat? I will say, officers, regardless of gender, are trained in combat

Fantastic Beasts and how we live with them

Im trying to teach my lab to open/close doors. I attached ropes to the door knobs for him to grab. This lil goober.... dude will walk into a room, pull the cord on the outside doorknob so that the door closed BEHIND him... and then get upset because he closed himself in a room. Lmao. For...

    Character The tomboy trope

As a sporty athletic girl growing up, who has competed from 7th grade through college... i write them based off of my experiences and teammates. Which is to say, normal women. There was nothing that set us apart from traditionally fem women. Going to the gym to work out: my first off campus job...

    What made me happy today?

I received the highest level of state certification today-- I'm now a permanent State certified librarian! honestly dont really know what all that means other than it makes my library look good to have state certified librarians. and it looks good on a resume if i should want to go to another...

    Character The tomboy trope

Maybe shes going for a version of "retro futurism". I know i liked that concept since reading Ray Bradbury. All chrome, 1950s panic over the reprocussions WWII and nuclear warfare (retro names), robots and mutants and space travel, oh my! Two of my short stories takes place in this retro...
