    Day 274: Podcasts and YouTube?

Once upon a time I enjoyed watching Brandon Sanderson's 2020 multipart (five?) lecture series recorded at the university he teaches at. It got several million views and it looks like he's repeated the trick, but I've only watched those originals. For your research purposes I would define them as...

I would subscribe and watch, best of luck.

    Glossing Over Realism in Stories

Bringing to mind the best repeat Austin Powers gag; the ordinary people in the bar after work mourning the loss of grunt no.28, that Powers shot without a second's thought, etc.

    Big File Question!!!

LibreOffice is the newer, better maintained and geniunely free continuation of Open Office (though I think the latter still exists too).

Perhaps it isn't. Feel free to shut it or move it or delete it.

    Big File Question!!!

I'd always advise making regular back ups in a plain text format so whatever happens, even if part of the file gets corrupted, you can rescue the rest. Word format and other similar formats is actually a ZIP folder that's been renamed XLXS, meaning coruption of part of the file can make the rest...

    Miscellaneous research

I thought it would be fun to have a place to share curios that one comes across and likes in the process of researching, but isn't of any obvious use to one's own projects.

How to stay excited about a work after outlining?

This thread has helped me understand that one of the reasons my fiction has been dying on the vine for two years has been an ill advised descent from winging it into outlining. Thanks.

That'd make a great first line.

    The Writer's Block Thread

Writing is unnatural. Keyboards are weird and pens aren't much better. Letter glyphs are bizarre and staring intently at an arrangement of them 18" in front of your face for hours trying to make them multiply is even more bizarre. You're all very impressive for *not* having writer's block some...

"Cozy" fiction, fantasy, sci-fi, etc. - thoughts?

Been listening to a lot of Nero Wolfe audiobooks of late. Rex Stout wrote scores (!) of them, specified that no-one should continue them after his death, died, so his estate promptly asked Robert Goldsborough to continue the series. I listened to the latter ones first and thought them far too...

Like what you've done with the place

I sat passively on a driftwood raft eating the ship biscuits and drinking my own--- well never mind. The winds finally got me here, the long way around. (I've no idea what I'm talking about, but it might sound writerly.)
