Splorch! ;) (The sound a rotten tomato makes when it hits the face of a person in the stocks).

    Today I learned...

Today I learned that Adolf Eichmann, one of the major organisers of the Nazi Holocaust and the Final Solution, visited Haifa in 1937 to see the burgeoning Jewish kibbutzes and small towns for himself. (Eichmann's commanding officer in the SD, the Nazi intelligence service, travelled with him)...

    What made me happy today?

I hope you video- or audio-taped them saying that no jobs will be affected, Amontillado. And updated your CV. ========== As for me? People in my department at work heard that I write books and asked to see, so I gave them a first-chapter "freebie" to read. My boss enjoyed his little gift and...

Stay out of Washington, then. (Sorry, that was a gimme) ;) Nothin' says lovin' like cookies in the oven. ❤️ Be glad that the spirits don't wine, or that would be un-beer-able. (Sorry...)

Writing Challenge: Write a six-word story

May as well face the truth; I'm too long in the tooth. (shortened, but quoted from proposed theme song for the BBC series "One Foot in the Grave", by Eric Idle) :)

    The Philosophy Thread

"Evil" is a moral judgment in itself, since the word "evil" stems from religion. "Bad" can mean anything, even simply an expired fruit. ;) Calling someone "evil" rather than "bad" is only possible after having seen proof of evil acts (e.g. a video of a person killing another). Even then, intent...

    The Gaming Thread

I still remember playing Medieval: Total War (the first one). The only way I could ever "win" one of those was to play the "Viking Invasion" expansion (back when the most-asked question was "How do I get to Ireland?") ;) My Swedish berserkers chewed up the scenery with the Scots, then turned...

New neighbors. (Howdy, neighborinos! The handle's Flanders, but my friends call me Ned!) =P

What new word did you learn today?

Whaddaya mean, I'm fusty?! Why you little critter ... OOOOoooOOOoooHHH!!! *jumps up and down like Yosemite Sam* ;) And speaking of which: Choleric: A person who is easily moved to excessive or unreasonable anger. (This word derives from the ancient and medieval theory of the "four humours"...

    Random Thoughts

Maybe. But if so, his neighbours would be mightily confused on Sunday mornings. "I keep telling him it's time for Church, and he said 'Not now, I'm feeding my dog!'" ;) Anyway, I heard a Viennese waltz on the radio this morning, and it gave me a random idea: what rhymes with Vienna? So I dashed...

Not being a USAian, I tried to work out (on google maps) how long that would take ... but the map stubbornly refused to tell me which St Louis you mean. ;) It shifted between St Louis (Missouri), St Louis (Michigan), and -- amusingly -- St Louis Park (Minnesota), St. Louis Lambert International...

Things AI can do (but there aren't many)

Very true. This is like the difference between teaching children to read and teaching them to question what they read. Anyone can learn to read. But it takes skill, and a keen eye, to question why something is written the way it is. Children should be taught to question everything. :)...
