    What Are You Listening To?

Where have I heard this before? Some movie, I think. It sounds like Cab Calloway, or like a song by him originally. That's exactly the timbre he'd use.

Why do you, or don't you, take part in writing contests?

There's something to be said for that. Trusting yourself isn't always easy.

Why do you, or don't you, take part in writing contests?

It's funny how the mind starts thinking and ideas start from some of those prompts. Some days, I just can't think of much. But give me a sentence someone else has written and I can turn it into a scene. Then what you do is go back and erase their sentence. Now it's all yours!

Why do you, or don't you, take part in writing contests?

I wish I could, haha. I've got all kinds of funny, forlorn, and shocking stories in me. I've been writing a lot lately. Thousands and thousands of words. My pace is accelerating as I'm gearing up for something big! Yeah, I lost my Qaddafi medals from the last board. They're gone. This is how...

    Best Bad Sword Fighting advice

To do forward rolls to dodge like they do in every computer RPG. That would get you instantly killed, doing little tumbles and cartwheels while you're being attacked.

Need Help with 7 Sins Magic Powers

Envy can have what others have. It gets downloaded into her (is this a her?) like in the Matrix. So she's good at all things as needed. She's also a kleptomaniac.

    The Gaming Thread

I've done a few adventures now. I've found this: Choose a short adventure. Plenty will be added if you're a fun player. Temple of Elemental Evil is not going to work unless you can play it by chapters somehow, but then you see too much of the content. So seek out short adventures. Even homemade...

So far, playing first edition D&D on the Claude.ai has been a rousing success. The only aspect which is failing is the usage limits of the Claude engine. I've exhausted my access for the week, so I guess I'm done playing for the weekend. I really wanted to keep going. You have to watch...

    The Gaming Thread

Ah, I gave up with Grok. I cannot teach this thing. For those who missed my last post. My goal is to play old-school AD&D using an online AI. That makes it a computer game. It's the computer game I've always wanted! Grok was good at manipulating the uploaded files, but it couldn't retain a...

    What Are You Listening To?

I should really listen to more Black Label Society. I've always liked their sound. Zakk sounds so much like Ozzy, which makes since he was with him for so long, but it's funny because supposedly no one sounds like Ozzy. Demonstrably not true. (I guess I should mention viewer discretion. This...

    The Gaming Thread

This was the version I had. It just has an updated '80s cover. I actually have it on display in my office right now. Look at the dude! He's like Saruman times ten. Years ago, I bought all of the old D&D sets on ebay. They're expensive now. I'm glad I struck early. I mean, I could get them...

    The Gaming Thread

I've been playing a lot of first edition AD&D, the proper AD&D, for the discriminating gentleman. 🧐 The new trick is that I make the online AIs DM it. So this is a computer game of sorts. It's awesome. It blows the doors off of modern rpgs where they just plug an adventure into Unreal 5 Engine...

    What to do with Vampires?!

You want a moral crisis to flip his behavior at the midpoint. Then he starts approaching the behavior you want. So that's when he gives up politics and becomes a writer. That means the first section of the book shows the stakes (pun? haha) demanding that he stay where he is. So maybe he solves a...

Novel built of short-story “episodes” like a TV show

It's called a composite novel. I can only think of "I, Robot" doing this (already mentioned), Foundation (though that's very episodic), maybe Stephen Baxter's "Xeelee Sequence." Those are sort of assembled after the fact, but I guess they count. My favorite like this, though it's not sci-fi is...
