    Character The tomboy trope

Misako is well-versed in swordfighting and general kung-fu, that's about the extent of her abilities so far (it may evolve further in the future, who knows~)

    Character The tomboy trope

Misako needs to be athlethic so that other characters don't do that to her

    Character The tomboy trope

Okay then, let me try and rephrase the question somewhat: How do you write characters who don’t 'fit' into traditional femininity or gender norms in modern media (the sporty and athletic girls)?

    Hello!!

Hobbyist writing and short stories; and I'm familiar with tropes from the 00's onwards, which is why I often reference them a lot! I also am an Aussie! I also watched anthology episodes of "Twilight Zone" (most versions except 2019), "Night Gallery", "Tales from the Crypt", "The Nightmare Hour"...

What new word did you learn today?

I learnt the word 'Marmite', because it's similar to vegemite but tastes more like salted fish (ikan), xD They mix marmite with fish soup in Malaysia

    Character The tomboy trope

That IS because I was around since the late 00's (I was around when the tomboy trope was commonplace), that's why. Green hair was also much rarer in older media and anime back then, so even the main character had green hair back then. I was referring to the 'tomboy trope' in a historical context...

    Character The tomboy trope

Well, one aspect of being a tomboy in late 00's that used to be fairly common with the tomboy trope was that girls back then were known for being athletic and sporty, and were often ecouraged to take up martial arts. (keep in mind that this is an old trope that hasn't been there since late 00's)

    The Philosophy Thread

My favourite philosophy is the "brain in a vat" scenario, along with the temporal 'mind-swap' trope- mainly because they have such quirky questions such as "am I truly me if I mindswap?", "Does the brain know that it is in a jar, instead of reliving its memories (VR, lol)?", "What happens to the...

    Character The tomboy trope

In late 00's, the 'tomboy girl' trope was quite commonplace, and short hair was often associated with that hairstyle, and my current challenge is how to modernise a tomboy cop (Misako) so that the tomboy trope doesn't stand out as much, mainly because she has short hair? Tldr; tomboy trope =...

    Setting Mechas

Yeah, I think I did have the plot idea of my OC Misako having a mecha in her parking garage underneath her futuristic apartment, but considering the size of her golden mecha (see first post), I don't think it'll fit??

    Setting Mechas

So, back in late 00's there was focus on mechas, and they were commonplace in a lot of browser games (including MechQuest), but let's discuss the hard and soft sci-fi of mecha designs and also the setting (whether fantasy or sci-fi), since there's a lot of disrespecancy on how big a mecha should...

    Token Human trope and discussion

I remember back in 2008 AD, it was quite common to have at least one ‘human character’ amongst all the aliens and other beings in space operas (Fry from Futurama, for example), but is it still common as a trope nowadays? Discuss and speculate! Examples from older fiction and media: Fry from...
