    What are you reading?

I'm working my way, at a very spaced out pace, through Borges' Ficciones. I do not recommend to do so on work lunch-breaks. Executive function is a bit diminished afterwards.

    TV Shows

I quite liked Invasion. My wife and kid (who I watch most shows with) lost interest a bit through series 2, and abandoned it completely in series 3. I need to find time to watch it. Alone :(

    What are you reading?

Fantastic. I now know what to get my daughter for Christmas – she loves that show.

    Explain your Username and Icon!

You're not alone @Night Herald :) I've written some bad 40k and 30k fanfiction myself in the past. (Even dabbled with a touch of 'geneseed' slash fiction. The less said about that, the better.) Personally I think that reading the entire HH series should be mandatory for anyone desiring to use...

    The Science Thread

Yes, I think that science and faith are completely compatible (and equally insufficient) when it comes to the big questions of the nature of being, the purpose (or lack of) of the universe or creation. Both the theologian and the scientist can try to push back the membrane of ignorance...

    The Science Thread

@Louanne Learning One of them must have learned it once. :) Here is one of my bird friends (this on is Warning, who is a bit more cautious). She's recently started the habit of pecking on my balcony window when she wants cheese. I've seen this before in other gulls, but she is a new convert...

Good call - definitely a better starting point than something like 'Crash'. It's one of his earliest, and though it's quite different in external milieu to his later works, it definitely sets the tempo for his inner landscapes. If you ever do fancy a further foray, 'High Rise' is a delight (I...

Tell Us About Your Writing Set Up

I write almost exclusively on my phone. Above all else, I hate switching devices. My phone enables the toilet, the bus, the park bench, the sofa, and the bed to each be a consistent writing location. I'll occasionally use a laptop, but I mostly reserve that for doing study/academic stuff.

    Posting while drunk

Too much Gemini action going on here. I'm another one. I can't post while drunk these days, as it's been eight and a half years since I stopped. (Christmas Day 2016, the day George Michael passed) But as I write right now there is a hen party howling and oozing its way down the street below my...

The HG Wells Short Story Competition 2025

Wells himself gives me a couple of ideas - not to attempt to write anything thematically or stylistically in his vein, but just from geography. I haven't been back in over a decade, but I spent the first 30 years of my life in 'war of the worlds' country. Right in the middle of a cluster of...

The HG Wells Short Story Competition 2025

Thanks for the heads up, I've just started re-reading The Invisible Man as of yesterday, so that's good timing. I might give it a go.
