• National Parks (they have a civil war database; i've used it for genealogy research, looking up ancestors who fought in the war)

Depending on what you are looking for, university and state libraries are good resources. For example, because of the recent LA protests, people have been looking at archived photos from protests in LA through history at UCLA's digital archive and California's digital archives. Washington DC has a free digital archive as well their public library having its own public archive to access records (you have to submit a request if you are off-site).

its kinda a broad topic. different resources are required for different needs. For example, the Digital Library of American Slavery from University of North Carolina Greensboro is topical. Slave Voyage, which maps all of the ports in the Trans-Atlantic and Intra-American slave trade, the ships name, crew, and "cargo" is also a University database and topical.

So, it just depends on what you are looking for. Otherwise the list may not give you what you want.
