Day 10: odds and ends

Hey hey! Just a few quick hitters tonight.

• We should have some more contest updates available tomorrow. The Short Story should be good to go on June 1st.
• I added the old Members Who Visited in the last 24 Hours widget in its usual spot beneath the forum list. Except it doesn't say 24 Hours, which I'm still working on. But that's what it's set to regardless of the title. It takes the full 24 hours to populate so what you're seeing now is what we've had since I installed it around noon today. We'll be watching this very closely and tracking the activity levels.
• Our second roleplay, The Jade Empire, with @Louanne Learning as GM is up and running with its second post made today:

We're very excited about this. It's a great way to practice writing by thinking on your feet and riffing off other writer's ideas. Hopefully this one will be just as successful as the first.​

• I'm really liking the traffic in the Workshop. Lots of good stories and enthusiasm. I encourage everyone to post a piece of their work there if they haven't already. The first time might be tough but it gets easier after that. The more stories we share, the more practice we get, the more we'll learn.
• With the OG likely approaching its last 48 hours, we're stowing the lifeboats. Maybe we should do a watch party on the 28th? Seems anticlimactic with most accounts deleted, the spammers at the gates, and the nodes hidden. But we'll keep the spyglasses tuned and have the toast ready.

ETA: just checked the widget... 65 today! Hot damn! Keep it up.

Aw, thank you! I was very nervous to post. I've never written anything set in the steampunk universe, so I had to improvise a lot of the details. I'm excited to continue the story!

I did it - that forum's done... sooner or later its going to fall over, but leaving it live in the meantime with no moderators or admin would be irresponsible, thats a recipe for scams and people getting ripped off whether financially or of their copyright or both. Pretty much all the active members are over here now anyway. the site is dead, long live the site.

3k spammers at the gate now that the spam filter is dead, so we had to shutdown new members. A few hundred got through the gate so we had to shutdown the nodes to give them nothing to attack. End of the day, we didn't have the software access to mitigate if we wanted to. Daniel--if he paid the bills, which the month end timing may not have even expired yet--is welcome to log in for the first time since 2022 to deal with it. The rest of us have moved on.

Thank you for shutting down the other forum's final board. I am curious to see if WF stays afloat, but I have a feeling it is going to fold. I wonder how long I can access the URL. Thank you for protecting all the users and their stories/posts.

That all felt sadder just over 10 days ago.

It was like a bad relationship. You deal with the bullshit because the good parts made it worth it. Then you stick with it. Try to make it work. Then you're just enduring it because abandonment isn't an option. Then the anger and bargaining. Then you wake up one day with a fuck this shit attitude. Then you move on and wonder what you were upset about in the first place.

I'm just grateful it all worked out.

anyway fuckim.. in other news ive added the temporary feather logo as our icon, so you'll see it in the browser tab and if you have firefox, on the main page and like that... its only a place hold for a better one but i was sick of looking at the generic tabs

Are these spammers signing up with @duck email addresses? I think I did because reasons, but a lot of sites don't allow it. Appears the 'spammers' use them, scape stories, articles etc, run em thru the AI and all that. It's very prevalent on 'gamer guides' and such. I'm no expert, but that's what I've gathered.
