I am a new member. I am a biology teacher, all around science nerd, and science fiction enthusiast. For decades I've been wowed by certain ideas in science and thought, "that would make a great start to a science fiction book." Just about a year ago those ideas began coalescing into a concept, then plot and characters followed.

I haven't done much writing outside of my personal journals but I've been an absolute voracious reader, with sci fi being my favorite genre.

I am really excited by my idea and I have a lot of fear and anxiety about being able to execute it. Ultimately my goal is to write a book I would be excited to read and to do this concept justice. I very much appreciate your help in this!

Good luck on your quest for a new adventure. Just concentrate on the characters, and let them tell you their stories. Mark Twain said it best:

"If you invent two or three people and turn them loose in your manuscript, something is bound to happen to them -- you can't help it; and then it will take you the rest of the book to get them out of the natural consequences of that occurrence, and so first thing you know, there's your book all finished up and never cost you an idea."

Welcome to the forum. A journal is a good place to start. Through the years I kept a record of all my jobs, of where, when and what I did at each company. There were over a hundred assignments in thirty different disciplines, although some were similar. From that I was able to write a memoir as each assignment reminded me of what happened during that time. My first effort got a lot of negative feedback as I focused on the consulting work and did not recall the struggle of life. After a rewrite and a professional edit, I have a good product that a few have enjoyed.
