How would poisons work?

So, in my current story, I have two characters who have shared pain powers. So, one feels the pain of the other. So, Jane kicks Don. But Don doesn’t feel her kicking him, but she feels her own kick. More or less. So, how would poisons work? Because Jane might be puking her guts out, but doesn’t feel horrible. But Don is having a horrible day, but without the physical symptoms? But feels the pain of Jane’s organs dying?

Does this sound right? I know every poison works differently, but this is a weird thing to figure out.

sounds like you have it right.
Don may be experiencing the neurological while Jane experiences the physical

That’s what I figured. But anastethia and other things also pose a weird question. I don’t think it is possible to knock out both Don and Jane, because lore. But would you have to knock out Jane tonight get Don out cold? I already asked on the old forum about pain one feels when under.

would anesthesia be pain, though? it isnt affecting the organs (as in shutting them down). It isnt causing pain.
Does their connection only happen when pain or some kind of bodily trauma is involved? or is it like ALL types of connection? Like if Jane is sleepy, Don is sleepy. if Jane is having sex, Don orgasms. If Jane runs a marathon, Don is the one winded.

I think Spider Robinson had a similar concept.

A guy that had empathic powers and felt the pain of everyone around him, had to live an isolated, hermit-like life because it physically hurt him to be near other people.

You're talking about someone who experiences another person's physical pain psychically. Check out the r/Marvel sub-reddit or D.C. sub-reddit for super powered characters that felt or gave pain. I think there's a Marvel villain or superhero character called "Empath" who did something like this.

Midnight Club (series) had an episode like this, too, called "The Two Danas."
Original Dana (Dana 1) was stressed out and wanted to have fun, but didnt want to neglect her schooling and her ballet. so she made a deal with the Devil so she could be in 2 places at once. Dana 2 would go out and have fun and Dana 1 would experience it.
but it got out of hand way to quickly when Dana 2 started going to clubs, sleeping around (Dana 1 experienced Dana 2's orgasm while she was watching tv with her parents, for example), and doing drugs (Dana 2 got high of heroine while Dana 1 was in a ballet audition).

Dana 1 couldnt control Dana 2 and it ruined her life. so she started hurting herself so Dana 2 could feel it, and then Dana 2 started hurting herself so Dana 1 could feel it.
Then Dana 1 got the idea to shoot Dana 2 in the head, and Dana 2 got the idea to stab Dana 1.....

I will just leave it there

Thanks for the advice. This link isn’t an empathetic one. More of a physical as these characters can swap organs, etc. if they have a matching set, that is.

I remember you telling me about this show on the old forum. I keep thinking about it and want to watch it.

I think we figured out how poisons work. How about chloroform and othrr things? Would it knock of just Dan or both?

i think you'd have to think about how deep the connection. Chloroform works if you inhale it. Does that mean if Jane sniffed a rose, Dan could smell its fragrance? But then, what about an odorless gas like Carbon Monoxide?
I had the impression that Dan could only feel pain.... if Jane pricks her thumb on a rose and bleeds, Dan feels the thumb prick. If you are saying that he now experiences everything Jane feels, then where does it end?
Jane taking a walk on the beach and Dan feels the sand between his toes and the sun on his skin, and smells the salty air?

I think, maybe determine the parameters first and see whether or not chloroform falls within it.

I agree. I do need to think it through a bit more. I don't think it goes so far with the senses- Jane can go about her life and Dan doesn't know anything until she stubs her toe. I wonder if Jane was hit with Chloroform, she might smell it, then pass out. But Dan would feel the burns on his face- even though he can't see it on his own.

Yes, Dan and Jane can only feel one another's pain. I don't think it's every physical feeling- this pain thing act more like an alert system in the story, to be honest.

I agree. I was getting a bit stuck with poisoning, because it's kind of two-fold. With physical symptoms and physical pain, which I think we figured out earlier.
