Keyboard protection?

Hey folks. What does everyone use to protect (or fix) a laptop keyboard?

I typically wear off laptop keys within a couple of years, and it doesn't matter to me. I don't need the letters. This laptop is different though. First, it's made it 5 years before starting to wear off and I'm thrilled (and shocked) about that, but now that several keys are wearing through - the backlight is showing through and that is less great, lol. I could shut off the backlight, but I like it.

I'm considering silicone covers instead of replacing keys? Does anyone use them? Do you like them? How well do they hold up?

I do genuinely love that, it's beautiful, but I'm working with a laptop so I'm limited.
Okay. I would then recommend maybe getting a cover might be a good idea. You can also plug in an external keyboard.

I would do that, except I am not a stationary writer. I take my laptop everywhere. I'll sit on the floor with my dog and write, on the porch, outside, etc. I like it as portable as possible. I am leaning towards the silicone cover. I was just wondering if there's anything I should know before I go that route/better options.

I hate to ask, but is it possible to just get the keyboard replaced?? I know I got the keyboard on my mac swapped out years ago. I know it might not be possible due to money. I have been debating my keyboard for months.

I think I can just buy the key caps and pop them off and switch, but I'm a little more nervous about that because I did it with my last laptop and even though they were factory made and should have been perfect, they forever had some play in them that was really annoying to me.
