Welcome to the first annual November Writing Thing (RIP NaNoWriMo)! This is an experiment to see if we can rustle up some more interest in a November writing challenge than we have in the past. Similar to Nano, the main challenge is to produce a 50K word novel entirely in the month of November, which breaks down to 1667 words a day... including Thanksgiving. But to make it more accessible, you can also choose to write something in the 15K (500 words a day) or 25K (834 words a day) word range as well. It's up to you. There's no pressure or prizes or disqualifications or anything like that. It's meant for having fun and building your writing chops.

Thanks to @Tallyfire and @Luxuria for doing most of the leg work on this. FAQs are as follows:

How it works
*
A signup sheet has been created to share and discuss your goals
* A thread for logging word counts will be posted on the 1st of November where you can log your progress alongside everyone else who’s signed up.
* Feel free to start threads in this forum for more in-depth questions, but please utilize the abovementioned word count thread or your own Progress Journal for your daily updates. No individual threads for that, please.
* The challenge will stay open until December 1st.

Once the time frame is up, we welcome all writers to celebrate and discuss in the post-challenge thread and post excerpts for critique in the Workshop or Writer's Showcase, as you see fit.

FAQ
Can I join after November 1st?
Please do! Just state your goal and head over to the main thread.

Can I change my goal mid-way? Feel free to increase your word count goal, but lowering the word count goes against the challenge.

Do I have to start a new novel? What you write is completely up to you. Start a new project, or continue an existing one.

Where are word counts tracked? You can track your word count in the dedicated thread. A table with estimates of expected word count by day can help you stay on track. Table or external apps sold separately.

I like the idea of a mascot. I think though, I would love something more fall-like for the animal. Like a squirrel or bat or something.

My first reaction to the acronym, "NWT" was "Newt" (Idk about any of you, but instead of saying the actual letters, I've just started sawing "Newt") hence the animal, lol:)
That makes sense. I am just not a huge fan of lizards. But I think it's cute.

A newt is an amphibian, not a lizard.

I think an amphibian is a great symbol for writers, the whole rising out of the water to breathe in the air.

Yeah... see how much I know? Haha. I was thinking of N.E.W.T.s, like from Harry Potter. :)

Anyway, I was thinking maybe we could also have a signature line for NWT with our current word count if we wanted. I think we get 4 lines? Anyway, I made this: (Might be a bit over the top, though.) glitter maker

I like the idea of stating our word count in our signature, but I would say just use regular font and size

I kinda like the idea, but also I don't see signitures right now. maybe because I am on mobile?
Yeah, the sigs don't show in mobile view. I like the idea, assuming I remember to update it.
Also, I like your little progress bar thingy, I might steal that... quick, look over there!
