Rejection, rejection, rejection...

A quick 10-day form letter from Pulp Asylum for one of my trunk stories. But I also received a higher tier "we enjoyed reading it, submit again" rejection after 81 days from Translunar Travelers Lounge.

That makes it 73 rejections for the year. Really hope I get another acceptance soon 😅

Got an agent form letter rejection this week, but also TWO personal rejections from magazines with notes! One was a 12-day from Fiction on the Web, and the other was a 14-day from Illustrated Worlds.

"I'm going to pass on it, but I wanted to encourage you to send something else in. I really enjoyed your writing and would love to read a different story from you."

If I'm gonna get a rejection, that's the kind I wanna see. Now I just gotta figure out what other story to send them...

We're up to 76 rejections now.

23-day form rejection from NewMyths.com. That's the 4th rejection for this story, but I have another idea of what to do with it rather than keep submitting it. Its structure lends itself to an episodic release, so I might try that.

I say keep going. Here are the number of rejections for my top three writing credits before they were published:

1. 12
2. 10
3. 10

One story that I truly believe in has been rejected 26 times now, but I keep trying cause I know it's good. Might run out of options for that one soon, though.

A few more trickled in this week. A 26-day no thanks form letter from Haven, and three agent form letters. Nothing interesting this time, but that's usually par for the course.

We're up to 80 rejections at the halfway point of 2025. I'll need to write some new stories if I've got a chance at hitting 200 by the end of the year.

I like the idea of trying to hit a certain number of rejections each year. Gonna go for 100 this year, I think. Maybe 75.

Ha! I got one from them today as well. 65-day.
They must’ve sent out the first batch today, because when I checked the Submission Grinder last night, nobody had received anything since their submission window in May. Just two solicited submissions accepted for Issue #0.

I’ve sent that story right back out to Old Moon Quarterly, which I fully expect to reject it, but their turnaround is fast, so there’s no reason not to roll the dice while they’re open.

:)

I just sold this one lol.

I'd submitted it to 34 places but a few of them went defunct. So, 30 rejections before I finally found this story a home. My first submission was in January 2024.
I truly believed it was good enough to be published, and now it will be. In print, too! Can't wait to get my contributor's copy of the anthology.
