Revised Roleplay rules

We have had to make a few changes to the rules to reflect the situation we find ourselves in. That being the case I am also taking the opportunity to tidy up the rather long rule set. By and large this is light touch with only a only a couple of substantive rule changes, and even these will not have much impact on how you are currently operating since they focus on new games and game masters. You will note certain rules have been deleted, these are mostly because they are already covered by the forum rules... there is no need to specifically prohibit AI content for example, when that is already in the main rules.

General Roleplay Rules

These rules are supplementary to the main rules of the forum which must also be followed. Staff may review, revise, and update these rules from time to time.

1. Respect and be kind to one another. This is an important rule. We all have different levels of writing abilities and voices. We all have different levels of written roleplay experience.

2. The expected writing level of this forum and any roleplays within will be casual. Meaning, please check your spelling and grammar before posting, but ignore the thesaurus at will.

3. This is NOT a writing workshop. Do not critique writing style, voice, or whatnot. If there is HUGE mis-spelling or you need clarification about something, just ask politely. But again, follow rule #1. We all miss words and spelling errors can happen.

4. All roleplays will be written in English aside from commonly known/understood greetings or phrases to add characterization. (Think ‘Danke’ vs. ‘Ich habe eine Katze und er ist sehr nett‘.)

5. ALL ROLEPLAYS MUST HAVE 2 Players or more. (note the change here from 3 made so that established games are not hurt by an absence of players).

6. No sexual or kinky roleplays. There are many places on the internet for that kind of thing, but this isn't one of them.

7. No real-world politics or religion in a roleplay or OOC thread. Likewise please steer clear of other forms of real world controversy

8. Do not use your character as a mouthpiece to sling personal insults or to pursue real world conflicts or arguments. If characters are going to fight, discuss it in the OOC thread beforehand so the players can remain friends.

9. No un-readable, colorful, photo-ridden and fancy roleplay posts. Also, please keep all font sizes to at least 12 and automatic or black color.

10. No God-Modding, which means don’t make your character immune or invisible to any physical damage, above the laws of the roleplay world. Also don't be self indulgent, your character is not the hub on which the universe turns.

11. All Roleplays will have an Out of Character Thread (OOC Thread) in the Roleplay Discussion Forum. Other threads can be made by the game master, e.g a character index or lore encylopedia but please keep the number of these reasonable

Game Master Rules

1. GMs must be members in good standing who are active participants in the forum and its community. That is to say if you want the privilege of being a GM here, you have to be someone who the staff and the membership at large, know, trust, and respect. Known trouble makers need not apply.

2. You also can't be a GM until you have successfully participated in at least one role play GM'd by someone else.

3. Be respectful of your players. People want to have fun, and they joined your story, because they want to be a part of it.

4. Be transparent about major changes in the story and character events. Basically, don't plot in the PMs to kill off a character of another player/create a romantic interest between characters/plot to hurt another player by hurting their character.

5. You are in-charge of your game and associated threads, you should do your best to resolve any disputes amicably. If someone is really out of order, please contact the moderating team who will deal with them at their discretion. You are also in charge of promoting your game, reminding players that is their turn, and all the other usual stuff.

6. The GM is allowed to dictate the written style of the Roleplay. If you want it to be First-Person Present Tense, go for it. If you want it to be only Third-person Past, that’s good, too. Make this clear at the start, once a game is underway it should not be changed.

7. The maximum number of posts you can expect from your players is 1 a week each. People may choose to make more, but everyone has lives and other comittments and this is afterall meant to be fun

8. GMs may have unique rules for their roleplays so long as they do not conflict with these rules, or the forum rules. Please state any such rules at the start so everyone knows what to expect

9. New GMs must be confirmed by Admin before they start posting about their game(s) (Message @big soft moose about this). Existing GMs can start new games at their discretion without further approval, but we ask you to be sensible about how many are running at one time.

10. At discretion of Admin, established GMs may be given extra powers, such as the power to edit posts by others, or to lock and unlock a thread. Any abuse of these powers such as interfering in someone else's game, or other site content, will result in their withdrawal, loss of the GM position, and/or possibly suspension or banning from the section or the whole forum depending on the severity of the abuse
