Shined vs. shone...HELP!

"The crystal shined with awe-inspiring brilliance."
"The crystal shone with awe-inspiring brilliance."

UUGH, I like shined better, but everything's telling me I'm wrong!!

Both can be used, but it depends on if the verb takes an object or not.

The light shined on the wall. (object)

The sun shone. (no object)

"The crystal shone with awe-inspiring brilliance."

I'm going with Louanne here. "Shined" would be a transitive verb, "shone" an intransitive verb. But that's just the usage I've grown up with.
