Wow.

Thank you to everyone for making the trip over. 80 members in the first day and a half was double would I thought we would get in a month. Y'all made this look easy. I loved the way everyone looked out for one another, spreading the word, gathering your things, and proceeding calmly to the lifeboats. I was very worried about the whole thing but it turns out I had nothing to worry about.

And thank you for filling up the Oral History. So many stories. And so many the same! We wanted to be writers and needed a place to meet other writers to ask questions and have our work critiqued. I'd say we've found that. Whatever our thing is, there's a lot of people who remembered it. So many faces I haven't seen in forever. Look at what a random DM can do?

And thank you mostly for being you. The enthusiasm is infectious. I love all the new ideas and possibilities. Same shit we've always done but with no baggage. Take all the good, leave all the bad. We can do all of those things now. Let's keep the ideas fresh while the mod team sorts out the organization. So many possibilities now and zero limitations. Thank you for making that possible.

Thank you for summoning me here 🤣

To be completely honest I had popped in a few times over the years but it didn't look like home anymore. This feels like home. It has the vibe of how it used to be and the thing that was missing on my brief returns where I didn't even bother to post.

I'm very grateful.

I've seen .com members who popped over to the old site who said the atmosphere there felt "weird". That might have come from the lack of activity but the atmosphere of .org doesn't feel adversarial, and that's really valuable.

i think that was a reaction to our expelling the cliques... ive seen it said on .com that on dorg we don't allow disagreement. That wasnt true on the old site and won't be here either, polite and constructive disagreement and discussion is welcome, indeed encouraraged... what they mean is that they were no longer allowed to ruin thread after thread by hijacking it into pointless and bad spirited argument.

Speaking of which, I don’t know what that points tally measures and assume it hands out discounts on beer and wieners at some stage. I expect bonus points if I ever win an argument with @Louanne Learning .
in a civilised argument everyone wins by stretching their mental acuity and coming away with new perspectives.

points mean prizes as they used to say on 'play your cards right' (card sharks to the murrican contingent) but the prizes here are trophies...curently we're using the default list but i'll be adding some specifics soon

I think the trophies are really cool and I'm excited at the prospect of having more of them!

The trophies are a bit meh, but having medals for achievements like .com has is a good way of gamifying the site to get more engagement.

thats another thing for down the road... we're workimng on getting a medal engine add on set up.... the LB medals which we had over at the old place hasnt been operable/supported since 2021... we're probably looking at Badges by Ozmodz which will allow a lot more flexiblity to do the sort of thing you're talking about

I thought badges were the things under your names.

BTW, there's nothing to distinguish staff from regular members in the members online list - you might want to put something in to distinguish you.

nah those are called user banners... badges are essentially what we used to call medals

on the online list it ought to be possible to make us a different colour, leave that one withme

its not as simple as it seemed - you can use CSS to change peoples name colour on the forum, but it doesn't carry through to the widget... hmm... i might have to ask around

@Komposten @ps102 do either of you know how i change the colour of staff names in the users online widget ?

I know you said that you applied some CSS but have you applied "username CSS" per user group like it describes here? If you have applied a colour property to that and it fails to show up in some parts of the site, it might be that something is overriding it. Try applying an !important rule to the colour property like it shows here.

I'm not a XenForo expert but from some brief research, username CSS should apparently apply site wide.

Hopefully that's of help. If not, I can try to help in a different way. You can try applying the style and I can try to poke around in Firefox's dev tools to find out why it's styled differently on different parts of the forum. XenForo just renders regular CSS at the end of the day.
