What made me unhappy today ?

I think the pollen count in the air is ripping my voice away from me. I had lunch with friends yesterday, throat felt fine, but I sounded like I'd been screaming at a concert for hours. Same thing today. I've been saying little things to myself and I'm squeakin' and just flat out no sound coming out. If it persists, I'll investigate further, but as for now, I don't have to be on the phone at work this way.

I was woken up the night before last by my left foot shooting out unbearable pain signals. :( I tried to ignore it and go back to sleep, but it wouldn't quit. When the alarm clock rang and I tried to get out of bed and put my weight on it, it was so tender I almost collapsed.

So I hobbled into the bathroom, put some Voltaren cream on it, took two Voltaren tablets, and tried to get on with my day. By breakfast time, I could walk more or less normally, so I went to the office.

But I was so exhausted that by 2:30 pm or so, I could not keep my eyes open. Luckily my boss saw what was going on and sent me home. So I washed my face, drank some water, and got on my way.

Unluckily, I had a rehearsal last night. I drank more water and had a chocolate bar to stay awake and managed it, but my voice cracked twice before repairing itself. I've never had my voice cracking even once after reaching adulthood. I've no idea what to make of that, but it's not good.

Luckily I got home OK and went straight to bed. This morning, everything seems fine - still tired, but fine.

I'm WFH for the rest of the week, so I think I'll take it easy today.

If the pain was joint-related (often the first metatarsophalangeal or "big toe"...) it could be a touch of gout?

A friend who suffers from it was out for about three weeks recently, which was limiting as his wife has stage four (metastatic) cancer.

I have had it before, it is one of the worst pains. Even the molecules of air bumping into your foot hurt!

I'm making and DMing a DND campaign, playing in a DND campaign, participating in a roleplay, making a board game, writing and publishing a book, watching movies (which I could skip out on), doing final projects, going to court soon, and also doing Taekwondo.
I'm OVERWHELMED.

If you're feeling overwhelmed and can't really see yourself making a post to the roleplay at this time, you can always ask to swap turns with one of the other players. The idea being, while they write their own, you get stuff done and you have more time when it is your turn. Of course, if you think you'll have the exact same amount of work to do by the time it's your turn again, then it doesn't make much sense to do this.

You also have the option to skip your turn if you don't think you can make it.

It's good to do these things early because if you do them days after your turn begins, the roleplay gets stalled unnecessarily. But don't worry if you miscalculate and it happens. We've all been there.

But also remember that in the roleplay, you don't have to write to the max like I do. There is a minimum and you can just write that. 300 words is better than no words, and it's certainly a contribution!

Wait until you have to work for a living. You'll be begging for board games.

I've had gout attacks several times, and you're right - it's one of the worst pains ever. I consulted a doctor about it, and was told to avoid or limit red meat.

I know, I know: but, but, but ... I really like beefsteak. And pork. And ham. And lamb. And, and, and ... etc. ;) I know. Me too. But I learned to make do with chicken, fish, and veggies, and only have beef or lamb occasionally. Behold! No more gout attacks! :)

If that's what it takes, then I can have a roast chicken sandwich instead of a ham one. No biggie.

Seafood and shellfish? Infinite world opens up with shrimp, clams, and other tasty sea creatures.

I vaguely remember movies... they're those things you watch when you have two hours of free time not better spent sleeping, right ?
They're the two hours the children sit quietly enough you *can* sleep.

Yesterday after work and my doctor visit I had about 45 minutes before Mrs. A got home and I had to start cooking, so I dragged out my RC project to make some progress on it.

She took part of the afternoon off and got home 30 minutes before she  ever does, leaving me to clean up all the nuts, bolts, screws, bits, and bobs I'd just fished out to work on. I should stick to writing I guess, the cleanup of hitting "save and close" is easier.

Sadly probably worse gout-foods than red-meat, delicious scallops being the king.

One of the biggest triggers is dehydration - when it happened to me I had been working outside all day without drinking enough water. The fact that it had been in a vineyard led my quack instantly to jump to the conclusion that I was a wino and diagnose it as gout. (He didn't ask whether I actually drink wine --which I very rarely do-- but the look on his face when I said "vineyard"...)

One of my editing clients was hospitalized after suffering a miscarriage😥

I'm so sorry, X Equestris. It must be heartbreaking for her. *sends virtual hugs to X Equestris's client* 🫂

That's ridiculous. Working at a vineyard doesn't make you a wino any more than working on a building site makes you a house, or working at the racetrack makes you a horse.

Where the F*** did this quack study, Stereotypes R Us?

He was actually a very good doctor and I am sorry that he had to retire. The vineyard thing may have been a leap of faith, but he sent me for the blood-tests with a "whilst we're at it we might as well check your cholesterol etc. as you're fifty...", prescribed allopurinol for the blood urates followed up a few months later, teased the dose, everything I would expect of a family doctor/GP

He retired and the practice sadly closed and his patients were allocated to other local practices. The one I drew turns up to work in his Maclaren F1 despite the practice being in an area of social housing (show-off, buy something sensible for work), and roll on five or six years and I suggested another "well-man" blood-test to keep an eye on things, and he just said "why?". When I responded that I was of an age where I thought it prudent to know things before they become problems, he told me that the "PSA" (markers for prostate cancer) tests were unreliable and that if I was worried (I'm not) I would still have to have a finger up my bottom... Cretin.

Note to self: don't get gout.

That's a pretty good shout! It's largely genetic so a little out of one's control...

I did the hot-dog react as a test... Frankfurters are largely made from offal (gives them that pink colour), and guess what? Offal is a bad gout food. It's a bad thing to happen, and lots of the foods that are "traditionally" good (oily fish, shellfish, offal, spinach FFS) are bad gout foods!
