Every machine is given human sentience when built by sucking the essence of the humans who build them into the machines themselves. Almost like an echo-machine, but the type of metal they use is how spirits of humans get trapped within them. It is dubbed "Erikon".
Okay, that's interesting. So, I must ask then, why are there even humans to begin with? I know you have been working on this project for 5 years, so I mean no disrespect. However, logically, it would make more sense for ALL the humans who were forced to be in the March, to transfer their souls into machines that could NOT be hurt by the plauges. So, I just wanna know WHY there are even any humans at all? Also, can this metal be made into other objects, like tea cups and candle sticks. Are we potentially talking about souls trapped in household objects, a la Beauty and the Beast?
Knuckle wasn’t just another place on the map. It was the center of literally everything human. Politics, military command, religion, culture, all of it flowed through that one city.
Um...I guess for a fantasy world, this makes sense. But in reality, it does not. For even Athens, Rome and Constantinople were hubs, but there were other kingdoms, city states, etc. That also exerted power. So, I am baffled that humanity decided to put all their eggs in one basket? Because I have never seen that done before in the course of all human history. Which leads me to ask
how did this happen? HOW did everyone end up in Knuckles and how could a city sustain such a population? Were only the best of the best let in and everyone else murdered? Like, what caused this human geography?
If even that city could fall so quickly, then everywhere else would start to panic. Once fear sets in, then resistance starts to weaken. People second guess their leaders, armies hesitate, and conquest becomes easier when no one believes victory is possible. So it wasn’t just a massacre, it was psychological warfare on a massive scale.
Well, no shit, Sherlock. Everyone would panic. But cities don't tend to fall overnight unless there was already a storm brewing. Like the Goths sacking Rome, there was already conflict around the area that was set off by a bunch of other events. I am not sure psychological warfare is the word you are looking for here. I think maybe, it might be better to describe this as "the Hollow Sovereign performed a Coup and after locking the gates of the city, murdered all within aside from his supporters." Because that to me is more realistic.
1. Ashblight, which makes its recipients that are vulnerable to it weak, have brittle bones, and cracks and dries their skin. Most people die quickly to this plague.
2. Veilrot, located primarily in the Veilmarsh, literally just turns its victims into fungus. Not moving fungus. Not sentient fungus. Just fungus, a basic, needy plant that represents its victims in one way or another.
3. Fractures. The event known as the Shattering Night where the world was plunged into darkness quite literally made fractures in the sky. These things warp time, space and reality, and Fracture-Storms occur frequently. People are lost, they forget what they were doing, or simply cease to exist.
Okay, these are all cool. But I MUST ask that NO ONE POST ANY MUSHROOM PICTURES, BECAUSE I HAVE A SEVERE PHOBIA. PM them to each other. I WILL LEAVE IF THERE ARE MUSHROOM PICTURES. If that's not possible, I understand and would be happy to politely bow out of the story. Because I don't want people to NOT write what they want. I just want to know if there will be Mushroom pictures, because I cannot handle them,
Depends on what you mean by disaster. Clarify a bit more and I'll respond with a better answer, but if what you mean is natural disasters, then no, only Fractures.
Okay, so no Tornadoes, etc.
Solemn, simple, and hopeful. These three tenets make up the marches core beliefs.
1. Remain solemn. Grieve for your brothers and sisters in the march. Never stay happy, because it wont last.
2. Simplicity. If there is an easy way, it is better than the smart way. If there is a smart way, it is better than the reckless way. If there is a reckless way, it is not better than anything.
3. Hopefulness. Always hang onto hope. Never give up, lest you end up just like those before you: broken, dead, or tortured.
These make some sense. However, I must ask why a pessimistic attitude works with hopefulness. I feel that giving up hope is part of the drudgery of this world. "Abandon all hope, ye who enter in," Canto III, Dante, Longfellow. Because these two seem in conflict with one another as one cannot believe things will always go wrong, but be hopeful that something will get better. Or maybe, I am just jaded?
It is a miscellaneous mass of power generators, travelling merchants, moving shops, homes in caravans, and walking houses on literal engineer legs. So, not wheels, but legs. LOL
Okay, so this to me is sounding like Medieval Snowpiercer? Everyone is forced to live on an ever-moving train and it gets messy?
It is powered by "arcane generators" that channel the power of the unpredictability of magic. Some generators also get their power by shooting a beam of light into the sky into a Fracture and sucking the energy of chaos from it to power anything from stoves to the walking buildings. It accounts for terrain like mountains and rivers and lakes via the scouts, as mentioned above.
Okay, what is a fracture and WHY is chaos a thing? What is it made of? Because I am not making sense of this 'science' logic. Also, if chaos is powering their March, then WHY would anyone want to destroy it?
Chaos is not very narratively compelling, yes, but the Hollow Sovereign is the manifestation of corrupt power, chaos and loss combined. His followers therefore carry out one of the three goals of his, and it is typically chaos since people do not like to listen to rules by very nature. This causes even more chaos in and of itself, and therefore governs the complete and utter CHAOS of war, death, bloodshed, and loss all in one. It is an endless loop.
Characters are set apart from these people because typically, they do not believe in chaos. In fact, only the "bad guys" fight for chaos: everyone else would like order, like a sane person. Very good question!
I agree. It is not compelling, because it is nebulous and subjective. Also, how is he going to rule a world that is chaos? If it is anarchy he wants, then why rule? Also, this is sounding like the 4 horsemen of the Apocalypse, which could be cool and fun to play with.
I think this could be a really fun story, and I hope everyone agrees about the Mushrooms. Because I think it would be fun to join. I would however, still like some more details explained, because some of it does not make sense. I think this world has a lot of atmosphere and I think it might actually do well as a Grimdark story.
