Chronicles of Elidel (Character Index)

Characters submitted by @Whiskii

Name: Khelrik “Ricky” Yorezhan

Male/Female? Male

Race: Dark Elf

Age: 18

Physical Description (include descriptions about any cybernetics): Khelrik is a visibly young Dark Elf. His youth is especially obvious to other elves, and reactions range from indifference to condescension — as he is often considered still a child. His skin is a rather dark grey, and his eyes are a bright luminescent red (often reminding people of traffic lights). He keeps his white hair long, typically in a ponytail.

He dresses plainly in affordable synthetic fibres that keep him warm and allow for ease of movement, especially on the cold and cramped lower Lev (city level) he lives on.

His right arm is a basic prosthetic that does not offer any special properties other than an extremely steady right hand. He has an antique analog wristwatch on his opposite wrist that is permanently stuck at two o’clock, as the rare batteries that it needs to run are too expensive for him to afford.

He has a standard civilian neural interface, allowing him to surf the Net and call others.

Personality: Being young, Khelrik is rather idealistic, a stark contrast to his more-cynical father. He still has much to learn, and tends to ask a lot of questions.

Backstory:
Born in the dark, freezing depths of Lev 345, the largest ground-level section of the city, Ricky was born to a pair of struggling Dark Elves in the local elven enclave. His mother left the family when he was 8, having been seduced by a rich human promising her a better life in the upper Levs.

Some time ago in his preteen years, his right arm was mangled in a vague accident, of which he remembers nothing much of.

He and his father, Kieran, run a shady back-alley clinic with ties to local gangs and mercenary crews.

He hopes to one day find his mother in the upper Levs to get some closure.

Other Information:
Human friends call him “Ricky”. The nickname stuck permanently.

He works some nights as an underpaid taxi driver to make ends meet. He is likely being exploited by his anonymous employers.

He is a crack shot, and carries a compact energy pistol in his jacket pocket for self-defence.

Name: Kieran Yorezhan

Male/Female? Male

Race: Dark Elf

Age: 455

Physical Description (include descriptions about any cybernetics): Kieran is an older Dark Elf, though the only thing alerting non-elves to his age is a slightly weathered face. He appears unassuming from first glance, dressing plainly in synthetic leather jackets. In actuality, he has a range of combat enhancements that remain relatively hidden at first glance:

Subdermal armour renders him relatively bulletproof, but more resistant to fire from energy guns. He can still be hurt by blades and blunt force trauma. His more advanced neural interface scans targets’ vital signs and highlights injuries, alongside Net-surfing and voice calling. While synthetic muscle fibres enhance his strength and physical durability.

Like his son, Kieran has long, wavy white hair, though his only falls to the middle of his back. However, he opts to wear his hair in a bun for practical reasons. His eyes are a dark violet and his skin is a medium grey.

Personality: A long, dangerous life has caused Kieran to be more cynical than most. He does his best to be a good father, but worries that his son would be in need of a mother. He is protective of Ricky, especially since the accident that took his arm.

In his line of work, Kieran is relatively compassionate, but has a no-nonsense approach to running his clinic. When forced to wrangle indignant gang enforcers and violent mercenaries into cooperating with him to prevent their untimely deaths, one learns to bite back. He makes liberal use of the various black market sedatives at his disposal, only holding unruly patients at gunpoint as a last resort.

His divorce was not too long ago, and he is still enamoured by his ex-wife, whom he has not seen in years. He suspects it would take him an additional century to move on and envies humans who seem to come to terms with grief in the nick of time.

Backstory:
Kieran was born on Lev 345 four centuries ago in the elven enclave, to a massive family of 13. Too exhausted to care about their many children, his parents left him and his siblings to raise each other.

Relatively independent from a young age, he had a dream to study medicine and worked hard to scrounge up enough funds to go to medical school. He did achieve his dream somewhat, managing to get into his Lev’s university’s school of medicine.

He finished his education, but did not finish his residency. In order to progress to work as a doctor full-time, he would have had to fork out money he didn’t have to the medical megacorporation who was hosting him. He left before he could bring himself to financial ruin.

A little after this, he went into Elidel’s criminal underworld, opening up his shady clinic in a former garage he bought with his remaining money. After running his clinic for 300 years while doing mercenary work on the side, he chose to settle down and start a family.

After his marriage fell through, he has picked up mercenary work again for the past decade to support himself and his son.

Other Information:
He is proficient with a variety of weapons, including blades and firearms. He keeps various energy rifles at home — including an ion-shotgun, that fires accelerated atoms to rip through armour and skin.

He is a little wary of humans and does not hold them in a very positive light. But it will not stop him from treating any humans under his care.

Characters submitted by @Louanne Learning

Name: Miranda Montague

Male/Female? - Female

Race: Human

Age: 25

Physical Description (include descriptions about any cybernetics):

Miranda is an attractive woman, of medium height and slender build, with long, dark hair and big, brown eyes. She tends to dress business casual, and is always well put-together.

Like many young people of her status, Miranda has a cybernetic implant in her brain, made up of nano-filaments threaded in with her neurons, that function as a “second voice” inside her head. It reads her thoughts and provides an AI-generated answer that Miranda may agree or disagree with. It’s almost like a brain being haunted by a comforting ghost, making the information used in decision-making wider and deeper.

Personality:

Miranda tries to see the good in any situation. She’s a problem-solver, who believes there is a solution to every problem. She loves a challenge, but is not impulsive, and tends to the serious rather than flippant side.

She believes in the goodness of humanity. Her greatest desire is to make the world a better place for all people, especially those born to unfortunate circumstances. Her favourite philosopher is Epicurus, who placed the attainment of tranquil lives, characterized by freedom from fear and the absence of pain, as the highest goal.

She doesn’t make much time for fun or socializing. With the idealism of youth, her mission is to “save the world.”

Backstory:

Miranda is the daughter of Carter Montague, the Chief Technology Officer at Interface Industries. She’s lived a life of great privilege in the upper levels, and excelled in her first-rate education, earning an advanced degree in Digital Transformation and Data Analytics. She’s an expert in strategic decision-making, while at the same time possessing a kind heart.

She’s just landed an entry position at Interface Industries, and is excited at the prospect of making a difference.

Other Information:

Miranda volunteers her time at a soup kitchen that serves the needy, in the lower levels of Elidel.

Name: Lioriana Crowley

Male/Female? -
Female

Race: Elf-human hybrid

Age: 20

Physical Description (include descriptions about any cybernetics):

Lioriana is tall and willowy, and very beautiful. Her blue hair is closely cropped (in an act of rebellion). Generally, she dresses in leather pants and tunic. A smile very rarely graces her face, but her eyes are always observing, and judging.

Lioriana has a subdermal cybernetic implant in her collarbone that picks up certain frequencies of sound not detectable by the ear. These sounds are transmitted directly to her brain, for interpretation, rather than said aloud. She can turn it on and off with a press of a finger. Sometimes she “hears” street gossip, sometimes magical signals, or things she’d rather not hear. She picked up the implant second-hand, for cheap, on the black market, so reception is spotty.

Personality:

Lioriana has always been a loner. She doesn’t trust anyone. She’s quick to pick a fight is she feels slighted, and is not above fighting dirty. She’ll take advantage of any situation in order to get what she wants. Her mantra is “eat or be eaten.”

Backstory:

Lioriana never knew her human father. When she was two years old, her elven mother, Anka, married another elf, Keppi. As a hybrid, Lioriana has always felt the odd one out in her family, compounded by the favouritism Anka and Keppi have shown to their elven children.

Other Information:

Lioriana has “street-smarts.” She’s a thief and a user of drugs.

Character submitted by @Dark_Indigenous_Prince

Name: Alasdair Brontez

Male/Female: Male

Race:
Human

Age: 27

Physical Description (include descriptions about any cybernetics): Alasdair is pure human, five foot eleven, average build, ruggedly handsome, bushy brows and shoulder length curls, brown skin, green eyes because of the hi-tech eye contacts that let him see tiny details, perceive energy, zoom in and out, and look through solid objects.

Personality: Humorous, intellectual, ambitious, conniving.

Backstory: Alasdair was born into a rich family; he could remember crawling on marble floors, eating the finest meals, and looking out windows and seeing clouds swimming below. But his family lost their enormous fortune when they were sued by a jealous, greedy relative and had to move into a mid-level penthouse. Alasdair began running with the wrong crowd in his late teens and his parents threatened to kick him out. Alasdair angrily left to live with his scoundrel friends in the lower levels and after a week, when he realize how unglamorous it was, he tried to go back home but his parents had moved out and left the place empty. There was no note and Alasdair could never find them, no matter how hard he tried. He went back to the lower levels to live with his gangster crew for many months, stealing and fighting to survive, before finding a ripped flyer one day for a job at a cleaning service. And so for years Alasdair has lived a double life, pretending to be a street rat gangster with his friends and then slinking away to his cleaning job. He gave money to his friends whenever he could to help them better their lives and rented an apartment for himself over a laundromat.

Other Information: Sometimes Alasdair would steal items from homes, cars, or businesses (wherever he was hired to clean) but only if he thought his clients wouldnt miss it, like a diamond earring from a rich woman's jewelry box that was overflowing with diamonds. He uses his hi-tech eye contacts to look in pockets or inside safes and such to aid in his thievery.

Character submitted by @Whiskii

Name: Officer Janet Paisley

Male/Female? Female

Race: Human

Age: 36

Physical Description (include descriptions about any cybernetics): Janet is a fair human woman standing at an average height and athletic build, with brown hair and eyes; she keeps her hair long and keeps it back in a plain bun. Her dress follows the regulations of the Elidel Police Department (EPD), covered head to toe in the standard navy blue uniform worn under enchanted tactical armour and composite toe boots. Her head and face are typically covered by a standard-issue helmet, a protective balaclava and ballistic glasses.

Janet’s cybernetics are also standard-issue, consisting of basic enhancements to her physical abilities, a neural chip and artificial corneas that connect her to the EPD’s system — allowing her to cross-check perpetrators with names in existing databases, scan others’ vitals and improve her aim, among other functions.

Personality:
Janet is professional and somewhat distant; more than a decade spent seeing the worst of Elidel’s society has left her a little jaded. She does her job as best as she can and tries to not step on too many toes in the process, in the hopes of surviving another day. Often working alone due to the Department’s lack of manpower, fearing for her life has become a part of her daily routine.

Underneath her professional veneer hides a lawful, noble woman tortured by doubt, as to whether she is doing the right thing. Her low rank often subjects her to follow orders that further the already-worsening corruption in her Department, leaving her wondering if she is hindering the city more than she is helping it.

Backstory:
Janet was born on Lev 344 to a pair of law enforcement officers. Inspired by her parents, she signed up to join the Department early on in the hopes of making a difference in her community. Entering basic training hopeful, bright-eyed and far too young, her youthful idealism was shattered as soon as she was tossed out — with nothing but her wits and her gear — into a crime-ridden city that hated her and everything she represented.

Many officers in Elidel don’t survive their first week on the job. Janet was lucky in that department, having managed to survive (though not unscathed) to the present, where she has been posted to Lev 345. She does good when she can and hides her growing doubts under cold professionalism. But every day, the city’s shadows only grow darker and the Department grows increasingly corrupt, understaffed and overextended.

With time, Janet knows that she will have to reach her breaking point eventually. She fears what will happen when that day comes.

Other Information:
As is typical for Elidel’s cops, Janet is heavily armed, cybernetically-enhanced and well-armoured. She is armed with a standard semi-automatic ion-rifle, handgun and combat knife, alongside a few grenades for breaching defences and clearing rooms.

Janet is accompanied by a flying gunner drone to assist her against larger numbers of assailants.
