Chronicles of Elidel (OOC Thread)

Wondering if you have anything to add to this?
In real life, cybernetics is the study of any control-feedback system. But the most obvious examples would be real prosthetics, like a hearing aid with an adjustable volume, or a prosthetic hand with touch sensors. Most people (including myself) think of grafting tech onto living organic matter when you hear the word "cybernetics".

In much Sci-Fi, it's usually laser-focused on the prosthetics, because turning yourself into a superhuman with microchips and metal looks cool. A common idea in Cyberpunk is questioning where we draw the line. Are there consequences for grafting too much tech onto yourself? When does one become less of a person, and more of a machine?

Elidel, like any cyberpunk world, has things like artifical muscle fibres and neural interfaces because they're cool and a staple of the genre — usually grafted in through invasive surgeries. It lets our characters become beyond human (or elf etc). Your character can enhance their strength, see through walls with a thought, or make a phone call to someone miles beneath the ground. Such things are so integrated into society that people don't bat an eye — like us and iPhones. But then in comes the question: what happens when you become more machine than organic?

I think there's many facets here that we can explore.

Hey, I am popping in to see how things are going. I can post again in the announcement thread. What can I do to help you get this off the ground? @Whiskii

I'm not sure what else to do other than wait for people to join. I'll try to think of something when Louanne sends me her character sheet.

(just asking: it's not possible to start with two people and three characters, right?)

I understand. I really want 3 players before you begin. Let me see I can get anyone else to join.

@Louanne Learning your characters are approved!

I'm considering joining this. No idea how it works, though.

Basically, we're writing a collaborative story. If we've got 3 players, you can figure on doing an entry into the story about once every three weeks, since each player is given a week to come up with their new entry after the last one is posted. Entries must be between 300 and 1500 words.

You begin by creating a character or two (using the template in the OP) and sending them to GM @Whiskii by PM, for approval. Once approved, the characters are added to the character thread, and you name is then added to the rotation for the official story.

If you read over the OP of this thread, it provides additional relevant information.

That part I get. How do you keep the narrative organized and relatively cohesive? Is there some kind of inciting incident or agreed upon rising action to get it off the ground?

What happens is that the GM writes the opening post to the story and that gets the ball rolling.

The first few entries are usually used to show your characters in their usual setting, their usual life, to introduce us to them, and possibly set up a future conflict.

We use the OOC to bandy general ideas about where the story is going to go from there.

But yes, part of the role of the GM is to pay attention to the cohesiveness and tone of the story.

Also, I really like the entries that end on a prompt for the next players!

The story really grows as you go.

Interesting. Let me think about it. I don't want to commit to something unless I'm willing to follow through.

I would have to create a character, right? I've never done a sheet before. I'd be interested in the detective angle to keep with the noir side of Steampunk. Maybe a corporate douchebag, too... I could play myself!

Let us know how we can help you in any way.

Your character must belong to one of the races listed in the Lore thread:

We've got four characters so far:

Let's welcome @Dark_Indigenous_Prince to the RP!

Since we have three players, we can actually begin now! Give me a while to write an intro post and we will be good to go!

Fantastic! I could see Alasdair and Liorianna crossing paths!

@Whiskii - we hope to have your entry for The Jade Empire up soon.

Then, I would recommend you get the first entry into the official Elidel story up at your earliest convenience.

It's fantastic! You did an excellent job of bringing the setting to life, and the characters, too!

(One question - the levels are numbered starting at the top and numbers increase as we get deeper into the city?)

I guess I am up next!
