Hey hey!

Good news: the licenses have cleared the liquor board, so beer and Ernest Wieners are back on the menu. For those of you who missed the sign out front, the building was previous occupied by an Ernest Wiener joint. It took a few days to get the smell out, but they left a couple of cases when they moved. I've never met Ernest personally, but he makes a tasty wiener. Like the commercials said, bet you can't throat just one!

Other stuff:

  • I also added a Namaste thank you reaction. And I replaced the stupid love-eyed smiley with a simple heart. I don't think I'm feeling the laughing and shocked smileys, though. But they're still there.
  • The way the reactions work is each of them give you one point, except for the shocked face, which is worth zero. They can be changed to score any number of points, like 5000 for a beer, but that's dumb, so we'll be keeping each at one.
  • The Persistent Alerts add-on appears to be working like it did at the OG.
  • Speaking of the OG, it's still there. You can't make this shit up.
  • I believe I successfully created a medal with the new engine but I don't see it appearing yet. But I heard the system only checks for them a few times a day so it might take a minute.
  • Editorial Note: yesterday's Judgement Day announcement was misprinted as Day 12. It was really Day 13 and has been corrected. Apologies for the chronological confusion.

It would be poetic justice if D was scraping and saving to pay bills for a dead forum.

Oh. That's namaste? Seriously, I thought it was "I'm praying for you/your cause/your concern," or maybe, putting hands together in applause. The things you learn.

Thanks for the heads up that people get no points for the shocked smilie. I also use it on FB for "That's amazing!", but I guess it doesn't bear the same meaning here.

Points don’t really mean much anyway … they lead to trophies so we could create a trophy for getting x number of beers or something but it’s just a bit of fun with little meaning in the larger scale of things

I had that thought too, I would suspect that what happens is he has it set to pay by bank transfer and if he has enough cash it gets paid if he doesn’t it falls over rather than any intent either way on his part

It’ll likely fall over next month or whatever . It’s an irrelevance now anyway

It can be both apparently. Namaste or Prayer Hands. You'd have to ask a teenager for further clarification.

we could create a trophy for getting x number of beers
Lord, I wish. Is there a way to do that, Moose? Target specific reactions? From what I see, all the reaction points get lumped together on the accounting level.

It's definitely doable. On your drop-down profile from the top-right, there's a "reactions received" which lists how many of each individual type of reaction you get, so the forum is keeping count.

Yeah, it definitely tracks them, but the awards criteria appears to only target the aggregate reaction points, not the individual reactions themselves. But there could be something I'm missing. I really hope there's something I'm missing. Eat 500 Earnest Wieners and Live to earn the Joey Chestnut badge!

(I don't think I'm ever going to get tired of this)

Are the Earnest (Ernest?) Weiners named in honor of the WW2 boxer and humanitarian who died in 2014?
No, they're named after Ernest, who was very earnest with his wieners, from what I've heard. Maybe he was an Oscar Wilde fan.

And what should we award them for?
Anything really. Maybe somebody is hungry. Or they're feeling blue. Or they won't shut up. Be creative!

Its not doable although there is a work round - the trophies thing agregates points soi you canonly award trophies for reaching certain thresholds not for receiving specific reactions.

the way you could workit would be to set the trophy to be awarded at say 50k points, and set all the reactions to 1 point apart from beer which is say 5000... that way the only sensible way to get the 50k trophy would be to get 10 beer reactions... I'm not sure its worth the hassle of setting it up tbh

I guess .com are using some kind of custom add-in. Shame it's not a standard feature, but oh well.

As we're discovering, the add-ons work differently for different versions of Xenforo. Ours is brand new but theirs is a few versions older. We can't use their medal engine, for example, because it isn't compatible with XF 2.3. Which probably means they can't upgrade without losing it, which obviously wouldn't be good. I imagine they have a few things like that, having been around for 20 years. The OG was so out of date that even Xenforo said, yeah, no, you're probably stuck with it.

They really get you with the add-ons. The software is the software, but the bells and whistles are finnicky.

Maybe there could be multiple trophies based on how many beers you have. For instance:

1 beer = Thirst-quencher
2 beers = Gettin' there
5 beers = Nicely sozzled
10 beers = Definitely not drivin' home tonight
15 beers = Liver-killer
20 beers = Night onna tiles
30 (or more) beers = Dead

And maybe we could do something similar based on how many hot-dogs wieners sausages-inna-bun you get ... (all right, I'm talking about the food). For instance:

1 hot-dog = Hunger-solver
2 hot-dogs = Stomach-widener
5 hot-dogs = Wipe the ketchup away
9 hot-dogs = Cat-o'-nine ... ah, forget it
12 hot-dogs = Contest winner
20 hot-dogs = I'm getting sick
30 hot-dogs = Stop, already!
50 (or more) hot-dogs = Where's the ambulance?

... and so on. :) What do you think? We don't have to do this if it's too much work. I just thought it could be fun. ;)

Everyone loves an Ernest Weiner.
