Day 277: Xenforo Upgrade

Hey hey! Xenforo needs to upgrade to version 2.3.8. I'm going to run that manually in a few minutes. Nothing happened last time, but if it takes a few minutes and you can't log in or the site suddenly crashes, that's probably why. Should something really crazy happen, the rendezvous is over at .com.

The software backs itself up twice a day, which is awesome. Just waiting a bit for that to run before I fire....

I'm also going to be playing around with some of the boxes and the featured content, so if you see some of the forum menus moving around, that's why.

Hmm... the featured content doesn't look too feature-y, but there's a nice pic of a carbonara if you click on it. I like the New Threads box, though. I wonder if they have a widget that does random threads? That would be kind of cool.

Anybody particularly attached to the New Profile Posts widget? It's not utilized much, but there's still plenty of room.

I like the profile posts, but I do think something better could go there. What options do we have? Also, I a wondering if you want to move 'people online' closer to the top. I am always scrolling to see who is lurking. Also, the Trending Threads might have more engagement if higher on the page.

Yeah, probably. It's a pain to reorder the numbers in the back end so I'm not moving them around much yet. It'd be great if you could drag them up and down like you can with the forum nodes but you can't.

I think if you get rid of the profile posts widget no one will ever see them. At least I wouldn't. Maybe other people visit everyone's profiles and I'm the weird one.

Plenty of room so there's no need to delete anything.

I don't why I thought the featured content would create its own unique button. It's just another list of threads, but you can customize it. Might not be a bad idea for contests and role-plays. @big soft moose mentioned earlier there might be an issue with the anonymizer if we do that. We can test it on a dummy thread if need be.

I like the members online right at the top. The Trending Content and New Threads are really just another species of list. Not sure how the trending algorithm works, but that will probably usually have Lounge threads that get the most traffic. The New Thread is more of a grab bag that could be anything, but I kind of like that it cycles through the threads as new ones are started. You can change the number of threads listed in the widget too, which is cool.

I'm just messing with it for now.

To put it in features content you have to select a thread and tick promote to feature

I have a dealing that once it’s a feature it doesn’t function exactly the same so there could be issues with things like the anony wobbler and such things

It is also just a list of threads nothing fancy

You can also promote to article but that’s not worth messing with unless we have a separate articles area

Not sure. So far it doesn't appear to do anything to the thread besides link to whatever. Anomy's don't seem to be effected. But, yeah, nothing fancy besides another list.

Hey, the revamp looks great. I am wondering if there is also a way I can get other colors for the Dark Theme? Because I have black and blue? Which is fine, but I was wondering if there is a way I can customize the look.

No clue, but I doubt it. We can change the inherent colors that everybody sees, but I don't think it can be customized individually.
