DAYS OF SUN AND SHADOW: Born into tragedy but gifted with a powerful connection to the natural world, a resilient young woman comes of age amid the wild beauty of early-1800s Alabama and Arkansas in this incandescent, hauntingly moving epic about home, horses, human connection, and the transcendent beauty of nature.

India Hayford is a writer from Natrona County. Her debut novel, The Song of the Blue Bottle Tree, was named a 2025 Arkansas Gem by the Arkansas Center for the Book, an affiliate of the Library of Congress Center for the Book. A short story collection, Howl, won the 2023 Neltje Blanchan Memorial Writing Award for best work inspired by nature. Nonfiction articles have appeared in multiple publications, including Wyoming Wildlife, Needle Arts, and Threads. Her second novel, Days of Sun and Shadow, will be released by Kensington Publishing Corporation on June 30, 2026.

Amazing! I'll be sure to scoop up a copy. Really loved your debut. I enjoy historical fiction very much - early 1800s sounds great !

May your reviews be excellent and your sales plentiful !

Kensington Publishing will be featuring DAYS OF SUN AND SHADOW in a Goodreads giveaway from Jan.26-Feb.9 with 100 lucky winners receiving ARCs.

I’m looking forward to hearing what y'all think about DAYS OF SUN AND SHADOW. If you like early 19th century American history, horses, owls, and a bit of The Sight, this may be the book you've been waiting to read.

Well done! Over a thousand people, nearly two, (so far in the first day) requesting a copy. It looks like you have found your readers (or they have found you) (or maybe a mix of the two?). I'm glad for you Catriona! Keep up the awesomeness.

People like giveaways and it's great advertising. I have no idea how many Kensington did for the first book. A dozen, maybe? Each time around 10,000 people signed up. Sum total was over 145,000 giveaway signups between the book's release the end of March and the end of the year.

Aw man...

It says in the T&C:
"Eligibility. Open to individual legal residents of the 50 United States or the District of Columbia and Canada who have a Goodreads and an Amazon.com or Amazon.ca account"

But when I try to enter, I get this error 😭
  • Country code is not one of the countries allowed for this giveaway

A travesty of justice. Are you sure you're still in Canada? Haven't gone off and joined the French Foreign Legion or something and just didn't notice?
