Hello Everyone

Hi, I'm a newbie writer and glad to have found this site. I've been active on another site for just the last six months or so and have learned a fair amount and won a few contests. I've also lost a few contests in spectacular fashion!

I've been lurking here the last month or so and like the style, especially anonymizing contests and no politics or religion unless part of a story. Most of the writing here is more than a few levels above mine but, maybe someday. Also, it's a writing sight, it took maybe 5 minutes to find forums, writing and reviews that I learned from, thank you.

Decades ago teachers told me that I had writing talent. I opted for a sure paycheck (at the time) and went into computers and programming. Since then there has been good feedback on the few things I've written -- technical, factual stuff.

Retired now, writing is the first thing in a long time that I can get my head into and enjoy so much that I lose track of time.

As far as reviewing, I'm a reader and that's the only way I can review. I'm no literary expert and won't comment on grammar or simple edit mistakes unless it doesn't read well. I feel qualified to comment on flow, opinions on characters and mostly does it paint a picture and tell a story.

That's were I am in this writing thing. I hope I can contribute here. I know I'll learn.

Thanks for having me!

Hello and welcome and thank you for the lovely introduction! See you in the forums- and maybe in the contests too!

Welcome to the forum. Winnning a contest is a nice feather in your cap, but losing stings. I offered up my best ever short story and came in dead last. I had to rethink what is the best ever.

Thank you all for the welcome!

The first win was a thrill and encouragement. Losses sometimes stung but usually the chosen piece was better. These were short 24 hour pieces judged by moderators, very subjective.

As CatroniaGrace said, wrong audience or maybe just wrong day.

"I been in the right place
But it must have been the wrong time
I'd have said the right thing
But must have been the wrong line"
