I'm scintilla, the same ancient one from the abandoned site. I've written since 1980, not published, although I self-published a couple of short stories which I'll point you to if asked.

I'm dying (well I guess we all are) of a terminal disease, and I'm just trying to enjoy what I have left, and stories are my jam, so here I am.

Talk to me for fun, or please comment on anything I upload (don't hold back), or whatever. I'm not doing a lot these days.

I'm 63, retired, father of 8, husband of 1, and I like being social.

I'm happy to be here

Hello scintilla, I am glad to see you made it here from the older site, though I do not remember where we may have exchanged any communication before, but we may yet, now. I am just a little bit older, I was diagnosed with having COPD (I was never even a smoker), nine years ago, and thought I might be dying, from what I was told then. I had just switched to what is the healthiest way of eating that I know, too. I decided to go on with that and do my best with avoiding things that could worsen me really much sooner, even with just catching a cold, or having exposure to humid warm air or very dry air. I certainly had to be aware of smoke in the air. So many people are way too careless about that. And COVID came and I really isolated myself. But, with my care, I am not worsening, at least not significantly. My weight is down. My voice is noticably altered now, still. And since the diagnosis I have increasingly focused on writing, with intention of publishing things from what I write.

I don't think I said hello before, Or maybe I did, can't remember. So let me tell you a bit about myself.

I was born in Glasgow, Scotland, but have travelled around quite a bit. I've worked all kinds of jobs, finally settling down as an English teacher here in Spain with my lovely wife. I love writing and have published all kinds of stuff on Amazon. My main stories are about a vet's assistant who works at a cat sanctuary and takes on cases. A hard man who breaks people's kneecaps for default of payment. And a cheeky wee elf. My muse is the people I meet or hear about. For some reason I usually like to write in first voice as I feel more in control of the character. I really like it here as you have similar interests i.e .writing. Oh, and I also like your wee competitions. They're brilliant. Sorry, can't think of much else to say.

I think I recognize your face, is it the same photo from the other site? Anyway, I'm glad you were able to control your symptoms and lengthen your life, particularly maintaining a quality of life that allows you to participate. I have Multiple System Atrophy, which is a kind of Parkinson's disease that is progressively degenerative. I'm still pretty good, just easily exhausted. It won't damage my memory or personality, which I'm really happy about.

I'm starting to write again, right now just getting my feet wet. My plan is to participate in the monthly short story contests. Thanks for reaching out, and feel free to message me if your having a bad day or just need to talk. I'm happy to listen.
