I think the idea of an Architect provides some really good opportunity for some big surprises in the story. It could be someone who you would never expect - and that could be used to make some sort of philosophical statement

This is what trips me up - because Barnabas was doing experiments with one, and Pria ingested one.

I am wondering how we can reconcile this. I am sure it is possible - we just have to figure it out!

No, a specimen in this case is something Wren collected from the frozen-in-time landscape - like a raindrop frozen in time.

Wren's specimens consist of things he has collected from Cliffcross

It's possible because the Queen has two. But even if she had just one, Barnabas did the experiments before Pria got it. Those fragments obviously don't disappear. It was injected to a test subject yes, but Barnabas simply removed it and stored it away. The Queen would then get it and give it to Pria.

I didn't establish which of these happened. Either one works honestly.


Here is a segment from a post I did looooooooong ago. I do not blame you for not remembering it.

As usual, Delta was the last to arrive to the round table. She took a seat, set her arms on the table’s jet black finish, and began the conference with an announcement. “Queen Melina has captured the second fragment,” she said calmly. “That, I must admit, is not something I expected to happen this soon.”​

Alpha was the first to comment. “She and her government are fast.”​

“And we’ve yet to even get a clue on the location of a fragment,” said Beta. “How did she find two?”​

Gamma made no comment. She only listened.​

“Let us not panic,” Delta said. “She needs all six. And even if she finds all six, even she may not be able to drive the gear.”​

Interestingly, back then, it seems I set the number that makes the whole into six and completely forgot about it myself. For me to forget something like that, it means that I set it to something completely random.

That's okay. Here is the post. Can you go and edit that number to seven? This way, we're consistent with what we just made up. Plus, the seven colours of the rainbow is a lot more memorable.

Never established. But in my mind, it was one of the islands from the archipelago. I never revealed it because there wasn't a chance. And nobody cares because nobody has noticed. It's just a lifeless island.

We could make the rest of the fragment gathering much more dramatic.

Me too. After the fight in Cliffcross is over with and the sun is destroyed, we can look into the rest of the plot.

I already have a lot in mind, mostly for Olive. She will change a lot after the fight. And when I say a lot, I truly mean it. No spoilers but her character is about to take a big turn. She won't even be recognizable.

I've never induced this much change to a character. This will be really interesting.

I'm really, really looking forward to writing all of this. I just hope I can get it to work as well as I am imagining.

Yeah, this is what I assumed as well. Everyone became aware of Cliffcross because it was an established city with people frozen in time. If the other fragments came from more remote places, those frozen in time areas may not have been discovered by people outside of the Queen's immediate entourage.
 
I haven't received a reply from him yet. I also sent a PM but nothing. I really hope that nothing bad happened because this is actually rather unusual.

I'm not sure what to do now. I don't want to post anything given the chance that he might have something prepared. But I think it might be a good idea to wait until Monday night to see if he replies.
 
I'm terribly sorry, I don't know why but I was convinced I had until Tuesday to make the post and was on a camping trip for my fiance's birthday over an extended weekend, so I didn't get these notifications at the time.

If you're sure that this is all you need, then go for it. We waited this long, a little more wouldn't hurt. 36 hours is essentially a day and a half. If you get a post until then, I'll try to make my post immediately after, and that should make up for some lost ground.

Our goal is to write around 4000 words a month so we can be finished by the end of February. Delays are honestly not a huge deal as long as we hit that every month. Still, it's probably a really good idea to avoid delays of 4+ days because then I doubt we'll be able to hit our goal in that case. It's okay if that happens (we all have lives as I said) but we probably should avoid it from happening too often.

By the way, we definitely can't push the story past July because I am due to complete my compulsory military service at some point after that, which lasts a year. I doubt I'll be able to write during that time.

I've put February as our goal to leave plenty of room (March, April, May and June) in case of slow downs. But I imagine April and May will be super busy for me because they will be the last two months of degree. I imagine I'll just be chasing deadlines all day. I'll be completing my thesis, which has not been fun so far.
 
I am in the process of re-reading the story. Really, there are so many amazing things you have all contributed, and there is so much phenomenal writing.

I mostly did this to refresh my memory on the details, which I am glad I did! It isn't perfect of course but it's so much fun to re-read nearly a year's worth of work—all 57k words of it! So many great characters and storylines. Olive is my own character and while I know what happens at the end of her story line, I don't know what happens at the end of others which aren't my own. I really want to find out!!!

But a great story ties everything together. How will we manage that, I wonder? I know there is a plan to bring many of them to Abbey. No idea what you are planning @Louanne Learning, but I am super looking forward to it. I am also super intrigued by the fact that Arthur is carrying the violin.

The storm did not yield, lightning cracking by the minute, thunder so resonant it vibrated down to the bone, and wind whipping through the air like razor blades. The front of rain in the distance was so dense it obscured everything beyond it, and that front approached the scene of the battle fast.

Despite it all, Queen Melina grinned. She did not expect to get so lucky. Delta, Gamma, and Alpha swarmed around Pria, whose ether has expanded so thoroughly as to transmogrify her body and warp the very fabric of space around her. Melina decided to stand firm and wait out the scene before her...

I wanted to write about twice as much but I ran into a time crunch. It's what I get for procrastinating and then forgetting the deadline. It seems every time I post I'm either really late or I ask to be skipped, so I'm going to make a point to get better about that going forward. I appreciate all of the patience and grave y'all have afforded me thus far.
