It Began in a Tavern (OOC Thread) (Part 2)

I guess when we write about her from now on, that is how we will refer to her.
I wanted to resolve the name thing. She practically has four names so I wanted something definite.

Great job! I love how you've now connected Silas to Sophia!
Silas comes across as a wise and knowledgeable leader, so it feels right for him to handle the ethereal—especially as a literal immortal ghost! I wish I could make a scene of it but he was introduced to the story after Olive's death.

Their next task is to recover some fragments!
I wonder how you'll handle non-mages taking that task and what sort of conflicts there will be on the way. I'm sure you'll do great though!

@ps102 @IgnitedxSoul

Looking at the gear fragments -

1. Red — Chaos (Original god formed from the void)
2. Orange — Aether (God of air)
3. Yellow — Chronos (God of time)
4. Green — Gaia (God of Earth)
5. Blue — Hemera (God of day)
6. Indigo — Eros (God of love)
7. Violet — Tartarus (God of the Underworld)

Here's one way to go - looking for your feedback on this -

(Melina already has the green and blue)

Katara and Ravenna retrieve the orange (air) and yellow (time)

Dusca and Barnabas retrieve the indigo (love)

Melina retrieves the violet (underworld)

Then it seems to me that the red fragment (chaos - representing the original god) - should have special meaning -

The final battle between Sophia/Olive and Melina will be over the red fragment?

That's okay with me. It makes a lot of sense. I can write Melina obtaining the violent fragment. Can you handle the rest?

The final battle between Sophia/Olive and Melina will be over the red fragment?
It will be army versus army like we discussed, so there won't be a singular battle. I do agree that there should be special attention given to it.

I think it's enough to get the gathering started now with the way you set it up. We can think about the chaos fragment later unless you feel we must know now.

I'm thinking about the pacing -

I think it will take two turns/entries for the retrieval of fragments on my end

one entry - Karata and Ravenna retrieve the orange and the yellow

then my entry after that - Barnabas and Dusca retrieve the indigo

It's up to you and you have feel freedom here since they are mostly your characters in adventures you came up with, but remember that the reason I originally stated all of this is for Katara's character development. This section of the story is your chance to go deep into her character and then her change. It isn't really just about gathering fragments. If you go with that plan, you'll only have one post to complete Katara's development. Unless you want it do afterwards somehow. But it might be harder if there is nothing happening.

Again, up to you—I'm just suggesting here. It will take me at least another 5 entries to complete Sophia. It's doable at our current faster pace.

Okay, good to know
I should also add that I envisioned this part of the story to be purely set aside for character development. The destruction of the sun also brought the "fall of Olive" with it. Now I want her to rise again as her true self—Sophia. And that will take time to do.

Katara and Ravenna also require development. While Sophia's development progresses, it would also make a lot of narrative sense for Katara and Ravenna to also progress in parallel as characters. I say that with the assumption that you want Katara to have a big arc and self-discovery moment of her own, but it just occurred to me that you never stated anything like that.

That probably comes from the fact that the type of stories I enjoy feature a lot of character development. The big main characters almost always have a big arc and they are very different by the end.

I guess what I'm saying is: Do you want Katara to have a big arc of your own, or not? I've been assuming all this time that you did, hence my push for thi sort of structure.

I'm going to give it some serious thought, and now that I know I have the number of entries required for it, I'm getting ideas....

Please think about it and tell me how many entries you'll think you need. You don't have to go by how many entries I will spend on Sophia. I said five, but that was in consideration for all of you. Really, I'd love to go super deep and do fifty! But that's obviously not realistic, haha.

So, please, think about it and tell me. I think it would be useful to know how much time each person would need to finish character development for this section.

Also, as I understand it, you haven't done long-form character development like this in a really long time since you write shorts and not novels. Think of it as an exercise to that. I mean, even though we call this a roleplay, this is basically a novel. I've been structuring it as one, at least—hence the current character development section.

I'm assuming the "army of demons" that ps102 has mentioned a few times will become a factor when Melina uncovers the violet fragment?

The army of demons was actually Louanne's idea. It's cool so we can go with it. It also brings some balance. Melina is by herself while the good side has hundreds of ghosts and a bunch of powerful mages like Araspeth.

Pria, Olten and Wren have not talked about sides yet. They used to work for the royal government but what now? Are they going to be independent, or will they join the fight? Some discussions between them are on the horizon, I guess.
