It Began in a Tavern (OOC Thread) (Part 2)

Hey, @Louanne Learning, question for you.

How did Arthur live his amnesic life with Joan? Did he know he was a mage? Or did he spend his life more as a poet? If you can build on that a little bit in the character sheet, that'd be great.

Yes, good point. Required a little bit of editing to his backstory - how's this below?

Background:

Arthur is Queen Melina’s brother. Twenty years earlier, she tried to kill him by having the castle walls come tumbling in, and then she stole his Crown. He escaped, with complete amnesia about his previous life, and built a quiet and anonymous life for himself as a stonemason. Leaving all magic aside, he shared a simple abode in the countryside with his family, including his wife Joan and several children.

At the age of 42, his memory, in pieces, began to return to him. He is then called to his destiny by the Alphabet Society to help save existence by prevailing over the sister who wronged him so cruelly all those years ago. Reluctantly, Arthur answers the call to play the Royal violin in this service. He does not want to leave his family, but secretly wants revenge against Melina. He fights these worst impulses in himself.

Perfect, edit it to the sheet so its accessible.

Updated!

I also have another question for you. How long (in posts) do you reckon Katara and Ravenna's adventure will go on for? It'd be nice if we can sync the end of their adventure with Sophia's so there is a bit of narrative alignment.

It doesn't have to be a precise number. Think in rough terms.

I will totally follow your lead. Let me know how many turn rotations you need, and I will follow

It's hard to say. I want to base everything to a really shocking twist. I just can't think of anything, so I'm just not sure. But that's okay for now at least because you and I are just beginning those arcs, so we still have plenty of room until I decide.

I'm really interested to see how exactly you'll develop Katara during this phase of the story. Character development is a huge challenge.

Edit: Whoops! Accidentally posted my story here, haha. I'll move it over to the appropriate thread.

Entry now posted.

Wow, wow, wow! It is f*cking awesome!! Three new developments - Silas appears at the tavern, Arthur confronts Melina, and the reappearance of Nalki and Charin! I will do my best to follow that!!

I wanted to bring them back because a) Nalki is kinda funny and b) it'd be awkward if they just vanished.

I could not pass on the opportunity to have the two siblings exchange a word or two, and to reveal a few things about Melina in the process and her intentions.

Silas actually appeared within Sophia's inner world, not the tavern, and showed her a memory, which is a pretty important clue. He is a ghost who can do ghost things I suppose. I like the idea of him appearing in people's visions and dreams to offer wise advise.

We're still technically pending for the last post to be edited. I thought it might pose a problem for you but it really won't. You know Ben, Katara and Ravenna will be adventuring on their own, so just skip time to that. What happened in-between can be clarified in an edit to SoulFire's post to maintain continuity..

So, proceed as normal, and this also gives SoulFire plenty of time to think of an edit.

Lots of intrigue in the last post! There's a lot to follow up on and I'm very excited!

I've been away at a convention the last few days, but I'm home tonight and plan to write my revision before going to bed!

Revision made, this is the new closing paragraphs of my post.

Araspeth glanced at Ravenna and Katara, then back at Ben. “Now more than ever,” she said. “Katara, Ravenna, I am joining you to gather these fragments.”

“You can’t be serious,” Hemios groaned. “I’d much rather be by the fires at camp where its warm.”

“No, you don’t get to take the coward’s route and sit around playing house like Barnabas,” Araspeth said. “You’re sticking with me. I can make good use of your magic.”

Dejected, Hemios sighed. “So where, exactly, are we going?”

Ben turned to Katara and Ravenna. A silent moment passed between them, the young women’s eyes pleading and worried. “You won’t be joining us,” He said.

Araspeth scoffed. “And how do you expect to stop me?”

A deep chill washed over Araspeth as Ben swung around and placed a glowing hand on both hers and Hemios’ foreheads. “This isn’t your battle to fight. Allow yourself to rest.”

The cold settled deep within Araspeth as her vision narrowed and darkened. She lost her balance, fell to her knees, and then lost all control of her limbs. Araspeth heard another shocked squeal from the young women as Hemios fell beside her as well. She tried to speak but couldn’t even utter as much as a moan.

“Did you kill them?” One of them asked, Araspeth couldn’t tell which.

“No, they’re merely incapacitated. They’ll be up in a couple hours.”

Then everything went black.

With me trying to desperately catch up with university as I recovered from my recent cold, I completely forgot about the geography stuff I was talking about. I'm mostly recovered and I'm slowly catching up so I'll get around to finding what needs to be edited.

In the meantime, here is the latest suggested revision for the geography entry. Anyone have any objections or anything to add?

Geography and Geopolitics
There are four main large masses of land: The Southern, Northern, Western and Eastern continents. Every continent is ruled by a single body of government to maintain geographical simplicity. Below is information for each continent.

Western Continent
The Western continent is inspired by both American continents, and is where our story takes place. It's ruled by a monarchy with Melina currently reigning as the Queen. She is not only the head of the country, but is also regarded as the most powerful mage, and as a ruthless ruler. She is the only living royal as her family died during an incident late in her childhood.

The Western continent is regarded as the most powerful across the world. While the other continents focused in magic and building large armies, the Western continent also put a large investment in science, the practice of understanding how the larger world works. This not only enabled them to better understand magic, it also enabled them to explore technology, something magic could not provide. Melina in particular vastly increased scientific and scholar spending to rapidly accelerate progress.

It's also home to the infamous River of Beginnings. Many scholars believe the river served as humanity's birth place after a mysterious light struck (see the Myth story).

Southern Continent
The Southern continent is a large archipelago based in Ancient Greece. It's also ruled by a monarchy compromised of Queen Cassandra, an unnamed king, and four children. Cassandra's ruling methods reflect Melina's in cruelty. The two continents have a friendly relationship due to their aligned ideology.

The continent is vastly known for its beautiful and warm summers.

Northern Continent
The Northern continent is a beautiful hilly and mountainous land known for its icy and rainy weather. It's based in Scotland. Currently, not much more information has been revealed.

Eastern Continent
Not much information has been revealed on the Eastern continent. It's based in Asia.
