Keeping tone

I am writing in a first person POV, the main objective is to create a dual POV between my main two characters. But,how can I keep the tone switching between each other. I plan on making chapter per chapter POV but even though both of them have equal relevance, I want to keep the tone of the main narrator which is (hers)instead of (his).

Huh? If you are going first person with two different characters then the character dictates the tone.

Do you mean one is the main protagonist and so everything that happens essentially flows thorugh them even when you are reported the narrative via first person form the other character? If so, maybe you the second character can mostly be reacting to the tone created by the first?

Am I close to what you mean? Sounds confusing, but that was my best guess at what you meant.

The issue, if I'm understanding the question correctly, is that if you're switching chapter by chapter - she's not the *main* narrator. They're equal.

If the overall tone you want is hers, why is it that you want to add his at all?

Do you have a clear voice for each character? Is, for example, one character more introspective, or uses different language and expression to the other? That's how you clarify which character it is.

Tone is different than voice. The overall tone might be somber, while one character is jaded and the other is hopeful. Or maybe the tone is lighthearted, but one character is a grouch and the other is inquisitive.

What tone are you going for, and how do the voices of these characters differ?
