My dear friends. Ronald Tolkin is an icon in our world, in the world of litreature.
How do you think, what is his top-secret to create the best setting ever? In his books even trees have soul.
I think that his key tool is... language. In the begining he created elves' language, and then created all another world.
How do you think?
By the way, I am very happy to be the part of your casual community ;)

Tolkien, I think you mean. Elvish, I think, is based on Finnish. He was a linguist, so was able to do that, but it's really not important for fantasy works, in my view. Most readers won't care.

Just because Tolkien did it, it doesn't mean it suitable for, or will work for everyone.

I think that Tolkien's success came from the fact that he first imagined a world so completely that his characters fit into it like gloves. As you pointed out, he had an ear for language and could write dialog that, while strange and stilted to our ears, was so consistent and in tune with his heroic themes that it seemed natural.

And, with his great knowledge of mythic lore, he was able to weave components of those stories into his narrative. You had the quest, you had the battles, you had the characters reaching for the best in themselves in the worst of adversities.
