Hi! I go by Vormora Nox (often people just call me Nox).

I used to do creative writing all the time in the format of role-playing, as a teenager and young adult.

I want to get back into writing and get more practice writing complete stories, rather than just individual characters' POV (as I used to do in RP). I think mapping out plot is a weak point for me. I can read advice and watch videos 'til the cows come home, but I haven't actually *practiced* creative writing in ages, other than the occasional fanfic.

I've been looking around for resources to practice Actually Writing More, and I found a recommendation about this place on Reddit! Happy to join!

What kind of genres do you like to read and write? Or maybe mix?

I'm into a few genres, and mixes thereof:

- Horror is probably my favourite genre overall, although my favourites are mostly films rather than books. Book examples: let the right one in (John Ajvide Lindqvist), The Honeys (Ryan la Sala). I'm also inspired by a lot of old internet creepypastas. I read "scary stories to tell in the dark" as a kid.

- Sci Fi, especially exploring themes of consciousness, individuality, beings with different types of cognition than humans, and/or unique alternate realities. Examples: Ancillary Justice (Ann Leckie), Story of Your Life (Ted Chiang short story), Children of Time (Adrian Tchaikovsky), the Long Earth (Stephen Baxter & Terry Pratchett).

- Fantasy (sometimes) but usually as a component of something else I'm interested in. I think most books I read in this genre were probably >10 years ago. But a fantasy spin on any of those types of sci fi listed above would definitely still be of interest to me.

- LGBTQ themes in general, including romance, although I'm typically not that invested in stories that are *just* romance; usually, I enjoy it in the context of one of the other genres.

Yes, well said! I usually need some other hook to the story, but it can add something for me if done well.
