The main job of the staff is to make sure the forum runs smoothly and is an enjoyable place to talk about writing. If you're not sure about anything feel free to get in touch with any of us either on a thread or by direct message.
Your Screen Name : You can only change your screen name while you are still a new member (14 days and 20 posts). After that it will only be changed in exceptional circumstances. Be aware that its not a great idea to use your real name, email address, or phone number. If you want to change it give @big soft moose a shout. Note that it is forbidden to use any screen name that implies you are staff when you are not.
Your Avatar: You can use anything you want within reason, but we ask people to be sensible and not use things that are trademarked, illegal, or offensive... no nudes for example
Your Signature: You're limited to 4 lines max. Images and animations are not allowed, active members (30 days 100 posts) can use colors and also have up to two links for example to their writing blog or site. Please do not use this to post links asking us to buy mail order brides, Viagra, fitted kitchens, or anything else spammy.
Language: Although the membership is worldwide, English is the language spoken here. The mods need to be able to understand what's being said so even if you parlez francais or habla espanol, please don't do it here.
We don't censor swear words but that isn't an excuse to be gratuitously offensive for the hell of it.
General Conduct: You're expected to behave like a reasonable person: disagreements are fine, abuse and fighting are not. Also we all know people who make us uncomfortable online, don't be that guy or girl. No one wants to see a picture of your genitals or to read a poem you've written about them. If anyone does make you uncomfortable here please use the report button to let the staff know.
AI and Bots: we expect content to be by you, not generated by an LLM or whatever. If fine to use them for spellchecking or inspiration but your words should be your own.
Plagiarism and copyright: Likewise you are expected to post your own words and not words stolen from others. Short quotes can be posted but must be attributed.
The Workshop: If you want to post your work for critique you are more than welcome to do so, but please also give others help with their work too. You get one mulligan, after that the expectation is that you give at least one critique per request for critique you make. Critiquing the work of others will also make you a better writer so it's a win/win
The Lounge: This is our off topic area where you can hang out with other forum members, chat, banter, and generally chill out. Note that in order to keep it chilled and happy, discussion of religion and politics is not allowed.
