Ophelia in Dreamland Main Character (Spoilers)

DAYDREAMER

New Member
Ophelia is a teenager who loves to dream, whether it be daydreaming or sleeping. It is her safe space from the harshness of the world. In her dreams she has friends, lives a peaceful life, and she can do anything. She knows this level of dreaming is a problem, but she ignores that fact. However, her dreams begin to consume her, to the point that she spends several hours doing nothing but dreaming. She tries to ignore the issue, fight it, flee from it, and soon she embraces it, leaving her reality behind.

She becomes selfish, believes that her dreams are reality and that there is no issue, and sees everyone else as selfish, forgetting the finer details she once knew of. But soon she realizes that staying in her bubble forever will not help, and she breaks free from her dreams and receives help.

Any questions or thoughts about my character? My story is still ongoing, so I do not have the finer details of the ending, but I will try to answer as many questions as I can.

This sounds like escapism, and like @ps102 mentioned on another thread - requires an uncovering of what she is escaping from.

How do you see her story ending? being lost in the dreams, or coming to terms with real life?

Ophelia is escaping from a few things, loneliness, expectations placed on her, bad events in her life, and awful news she reads. I see the book ending on her reaching out for help and learning how to balance herself with healthy amounts of escapism and reality.

It might help the narrative arc if you can focus in one thing that takes her through her journey. Otherwise, the arc may not flow.
