Suggestions and ideas

I seem to remember the OG sending out welcome PMs or emails with rules, various bits of useful information etc. Do we do that here? A lot of people who sign up don't post, although I realise they might be spammers or bots. Maybe some encouragement could help.

Just a shame that a lot of people join up and don't post anything, but that's pretty normal. No idea how many of those joiners are actually real people though. Maybe people these days aren't sure how forums work any more.

its normal everywhere, the OG forum had 60k members, only circa 3k had made one post and only a few hundred had made more than ten

That's so odd. I wouldn't join a place unless I intended on actively participating. You can lurk quite a bit without creating an account. I want to ask these people and find out.

Maybe some of them just sign up to access the Workshop, then decide they don't want to, for whatever reason. I guess some of them realise it's not like Wattpad. Or they get intimidated.

course about 12k of that 60 were spammers who'd been detected and banned but for whatever reason not deleted... i suspect a goodly number more were bots of one sort or another

Oh btw, another forum I'm on just got a tool that matches new users to IP addresses of users who are banned, and lets you approve them before they can post. No idea if that's a custom add-in, but if it isn't, maybe you might find it useful.

9 out of every 10 attempted members are spammers. Sometimes in the admin logs, they'll be 15 crossed out names between each real one. I'd suspect that quite a few of them make it through the filter, accounting for a lot of zero posters.
