The Gaming Thread

Steve Valentine did a fine job. *nod* I especially liked one of his throwaway lines to Morrigan: "Couldn't you just crawl under a bush and die? That'd be great, thanks."
Haha. Yeah, there were some hilarious one liners. Was she the one that said, "Sometimes I want to be flipped ass over tits and pounded like a bent nail!"

Pretty sure this one’s from banter between Aveline and Isabela in Dragon Age II.

ETA: Found it

Isabela: How's marriage been treating you, big girl?

Aveline: It's been good. No, great. I'd forgotten what it was like to...

Isabela: Be flipped ass over tits and hammered like a bent nail?

Aveline: …to be loved.

Isabela: Oh. Right, of course.

Aveline: Not that I'm complaining about the other thing.

For me, Dragon Age 1 banter wins every time. (But only because I found DA1 to be much more playable, and the story and characters much more compelling).

Consider this one:

Shale: (Sigh) So. I have a question for you, dwarf.

Oghren: Oh? Sounds like you're passing a stone, there. (Laughs) get it? 'Passing a stone?'

Shale: I do get it, yes. My question is this: had the Anvil of the Void not been destroyed, does it believe the dwarves would have used it?

Oghren: Hmm. You mean to create more golems? Oh yes, faster than you could squish a nug.

Shale: Even knowing the agony that it caused? They would still inflict it on others?

Oghren: No need to inflict it. There'd be plenty ready and willing to sign up, just as you did. There's fewer and fewer of us each year, and the darkspawn never run out. If it meant saving Orzammar? There'd be plenty who'd become a golem, sure.

Shale: Does it think it was wrong to destroy the Anvil, then?

Oghren: (Sigh) No... sometimes people need to be kept from doing stupid things, even for good reasons.

Shale: It is referring to its former wife?

Oghren: I think some statues should SOD OFF and ask their sodding questions to someone else.

(Poor old Oghren. Don't ever change) ;)

Finished Expedition 33. I had a choice of endings. I suppose everyone does, but because I powered up a certain character to absurd extremes, I had to go with that one in the final showdown. What a depressing ending, but . . .

I'm loyal to Gustave. I will bring you back, bro! And so Maelle was my chosen character at the end. One hit and you're dead, Verso.

I uninstalled the game because I really need to be doing something else. Maybe I'll try finishing Bard's Tale 3. I got up to world 3, whatever the snow one is, but then I got distracted with Exp33.

"Bard's Tale 3" is simple, by the way. You can recharge spell points almost anywhere. Ignore those reviewers who say it's impossible because the Spell Emporium where you normally recharge is gone. You don't need it. "Bard's Tale 1" is still the hardest.

Why am I laughing so hard. I love this.

I've never even played "Dark Souls", but even I get it. ;) The "You Died" phrase is as iconic as "FINISH HIM!!", "You have been eaten by a grue", and the arrow-in-the-knee.

I could have played Dark Souls 3 like you ... but I just preferred not to. ;)

Currently working my way through season two of dynasty mode with Oklahoma State on CFB 26. You couldn’t ask for a starker contrast with real life: 13-0 record, won the Big XII Championship, and we’re headed to the playoffs!

Only downside is the game’s playoff committee seems to have some of the same biases as the real one. Clemson can lose to SMU and only fall two spots while I can blow out Arizona State 80-20 and somehow fall one?🤷‍♂️

So I’m not thrilled about the current bracket. The first-round bye would’ve been nice, since since it would give my running back more time to fully recover from the rib injury he’s been battling for a while now. Still, I can’t complain: Tulane shouldn’t be too much trouble, especially when it’s a home game for me.

Finished the main story of GTA V tonight. I'm a little surprised it ended already! I guess now that the characters have lots of money to spend, you can get some more enjoyment out of buying properties and doing side quests for them, but I doubt that there will be any more big heists post-game. The heists are the best part!

I suppose there's some replay value in making different character choices and of doing the heists different ways, but I don't really have the appetite for a replay right away. Something I'll think about in future, though. I'll probably fart around for a couple of hours this weekend but then will have to consider which game to throw on next.

The charm of GTA until recently was unbridled mischief and mayhem. They've largely edited that out with consequences and shit. So much for escapism.

This was the first GTA game that I've played through. I tried IV a long, long time ago back on PS3 but I got stuck at one section early on and rage quit. I'd try it again if they had a remaster for PS5, but they don't, which seems strange.

I had lots of fun with random mayhem, besides the "rampages" (the hipster one was so funny). You can still take a Humvee out onto the boardwalk and run over dozens of civilians if you feel so inclined. And it's always fun to drive like a maniac, run random vehicles off the road, and send bicyclists into the air.
