The Gratitude Thread

Back in 2011, my gran (the last remaining link with the old days) passed away at age 94, after a long battle with dementia. The rest of the family and I helped to care for her in her declining years.

I am grateful for all the good times we shared together. I'm grateful to her for teaching me to read and write at an early age, and for taking care of me when I was young. I'm grateful for the endless games of Gin Rummy we played and the good food she shared with us. And I miss her.

It's 35 C here (feels like 41) - very humid. My glasses fog up when I step out of the door.

If I think about it even slightly I find a lot to be grateful for. The weather is beautiful in my home town today.

I'm grateful for my awesome family and the few close friends I still have. I'm grateful for the money in my pocket and the beer in my fridge. Grateful for the wealth of stories in the world, my rich inner life, my relative youth and good health. Grateful for all the exciting experiences I've lived through, grateful for all the love, grateful for peace. Super grateful that cats exist. Grateful that I have all these stories in me that I get to tell. It feels very fine to be alive today.

I'm really grateful that this community still exists, and that we got ourselves a new and fresh, updated, site. The team has done wonders to maintain the good features of the old site, such as persistent notifications, without which I feel like it would be a ghost town. Instead, now when I log in, there's always a few threads with new posts in them.

Also grateful for friends who take you places. Went swimming with a friend today, and ate lamb afterwards. Was awesome. Summer rocks.

Sitting on the screened back porch with a cup of coffee, watching and listening to birds around the feeder, looking out on a green lawn punctuated with flowers, feeling a soft breeze. What a wonderful gift, and my gratitude is as deep as I can make it. Thanks.

I just spent 4 days visiting my mother. It was a great time and I am grateful for the time we have together. I don't see her all that often so any time we can spend together is welcomed.
