A recent discussion of lit versus lighted and shone versus shined led me to the thought that it would clearly be shined for polishing shoes.

And somehow that led by association to:

The family attended church religiously.

...which gave me enough of a chuckle to at least get out of bed and eat some breakfast.

And I began to wonder what you call that. It's not a Tom Swifty, I suppose, because nothing is quoted. Nor does it appear to be a wellerism. Nor is it quite a pun — or is it, perhaps?

Anyway, it appears there is no thread for collecting Swifties, pseudo-Swifties, and assorted pundacity, so let's let this be that.

“I need to put on my coat,” Mary said wearily.

“Three, five and seven are my favourite numbers,” John said oddly.

“Time to milk the cows,” Elsa said with udder purpose.

Ah, so it's the Adverb Game? In that case ...

"Gout is toe-tally painful," Alfred said.

Being a king sucks royally. Good hours, but not long days.

"Plumbing's a good job," Mario said. "I get to pipe in music to people's homes."

Tsk, my child, politics... 😉

My daughter went to a concert with a friend who is a Swiftie. Daughter is not, but she gamely dressed in sequins and went to the TS concert since the friend had gone to a Pink concert with her once uon a time. Daughter said she had an absolute blast.
