Hey everyone., Welcome to the forum, it still smells of paint in here and its all new and a little bit different,
Just to mention a few things to help you get settled.
Overall the plan here is not to create an exact copy of the old forum but to create something better. To create what the old forum could have been without its myriad of problems, to do that we need your help.
Just to mention a few things to help you get settled.
- You will find the new forum to be relatively basic. Homer and I built this in four days with no concerns for aesthetics or optimization. Our only concern was building a lifeboat with heat and free beer to make the transition as easy as possible. We don't have logos or graphics or themes or color schemes yet. There is plenty of time for that later.
- This isn't an exact recreation of the old forum, so not every forum you're used to seeing will be present because we don't want to have lots of empty fora. So for example the writing craft area only has one forum... for now throw all your writing questions in there and we'll build out some boards when there's some content to divide up
- likewise the workshop currently only has three forums, fiction, non fiction, poetry - if you've got work for critique throw it in there and we'll divide them up later as needed.
- If you encounter any problems ask in the support and feedback forum. Should you find that you can't post here or whatever ask in the announcement thread on the old forum
- you'll notice that there's no contest boards yet. They are coming we just need to sort out a few back end things, anonymiser, medal engine and so on first
- We are particularly excited about the "Oral History of .Org" thread. This has been a crazy story for all of us. We all have a unique connections to this community. And if you're still here reading this, it probably goes deeper than your typical Internet experience. And with all unique experiences, everyone has a little piece of the greater story to tell. I've heard members talking about potentially publishing an e-zine or an anthology or something else that represents the forum. I think this is the story that needs telling.
- We don't have a concrete vision or plan for the future yet. This all came together too quickly for any of that. But it's all about the writing. we'd appreciate it if all the veteran members could come with a Workshop post ready to critique, and help give crit on others work. Not on day one, but a steady stream of original writing and critique and the kind of insight that only we can do to attract new members and build for the future.
