What are you working on?

I have 2 2/3 different WIP's going on...

WIP Number A - God Bless Small Town, USA. my "Big Damn Novel" and first book of a series I want to write called 'The Life Of Somebody.'

WIP Number B - Over in Dotcomland, I somehow managed to take first in one but two short story contests (Blackmail works, I tell ya what...). I have a few other finished shorts in need of polishing up. My thoughts is that as I continue to write the novel, whenever I feel froggy and enter a writing contest, I'll take said entry and get it all nice and shiny afterwards. And I figure after that, if I have enough stories collected, I'll self-pub an anthology of them.

And the 2/3 WIPs?

1/3 Number A - I left @MoonChild stranded on this big bridge that connects the lower part of Michigan with the upper part. I really need to go get her before she ends up in jail for blocking traffic.

Is leaving a fellow member in the middle of a highway against the rules over here? Asking for a wheelchair.

1/3 Number B - I've got a smut/erotica piece that I need to finish editing.

A screenplay that I'd pitch as adult Breakfast club meets vampiric Assault on 13th precinct. With hopefully original treatment on vampiric (non mystical/ dark creature trapping) origin and bullying. Still 1st draft, it's part of online course I follow, just search for playlist "Delusional screenwriting course" on YouTube.

Edit: just finished it.

my current WIP is a coming of age story that also has some elements of legal drama worked in due to the POVs [one MC is a detective and the other is the teenage victim in the case he's working turned witness]

The characters have been bouncing around in my head forever and I've been recreating the legal documents involved partially as practice for work, but I'm finally writing the book now and it's been very fun so far

Current WIP and planned short stories:

Coronation (Vancian fantasy), new: 40% done
Zashiki-Warashi (gothic folklore), rewrite: 50% done
Crest of Kings (Vancian fantasy), edit: 0% done
Siren (Red) (Horror), rewrite: 20% done
Siren (Blue) (Horror), new: 20% done
The Hop (Sci-fi), rewrite: 0% done

Probably should get off my arse and progress some of these.

I have a couple of ideas but haven't really been working on them besides a couple. One is a fantasy romance inspired by my favorite anime character at the moment but nothing is coming to me as far as plot. A few days ago I had a random inspiration for something else and decided just to wing it and see where my words brought me and so far I'm liking the plot for it right now but what I'm writing is real slow and not my best. But at least it's the most I've written in like two years lol

For a while now, I've had a concept for a prehistoric-fantasy novel in which a woman must rescue her sister from another tribe that wants to sacrifice her to their volcano god in order to stave off the next eruption. The setting is one of those "One Million BC" fantasy worlds where primitive humans and other hominin species coexist with Mesozoic creatures like dinosaurs. The story so far has had a couple of false starts, but today I started redoing the outline and even scribbling a bit of the first chapter.

Almost done with the first draft of my next book (my 4th). The MC is a player on a small town semi-pro baseball team in 1914 as he's trying to get noticed and move up, with the dream of playing in the majors. The manager is a mean old bastard who used to coach in the major leagues and is trying to get back there himself. Both those guys, plus the mascot and a strange businessman that gets involved all hair their own agendas that intertwine. The team, town, and league are a little "off". Almost everyone is a drunken farmer (including the players) and there is something super important but mysterious and strange about the team they play in the final game of the season. Nobody talks about it, but "something" happens in this place.

Beyond that, I couldn't tell you what it's really about or how exactly it will end. The joys of pantsing.

I know this is over a week old, but I would say open up different word files or get different sheets of paper, and do a page of each idea per day. You never know, you might land on one that you just want to keep writing! If you've already conquered this slump, which idea are you pursuing?

I am attempting to write a zombie story that is set in a city hit by a complete blackout - so mostly in darkness! And I'm trying to avoid 'showing' the zombies too much; just relying on sound, smell, and partial appearances (Like an arm thrashing through a gap in a barricade).

So what's your current writing work?

I haven't got one right now. I finished my latest story a couple of days ago, and I'm still mulling over what to write next. Not sure if I want to stay in horror, pivot back into fantasy or go into sci-fi mode.

Currently working on finishing up a short story, but that should be done in a couple days.

"Currently", meaning for the last 8 years, I'm working on two epic fantasy series, The Yggdrasilium and The Eight Barrows Braves. I have the first book of both pretty much completed, and have done a ton of work beyond that, but wanna keep off publishing in case there are any huge retroactive changes.

Yggdrasilium (Yggz) is pretty simple, I'm imagining two or three books and then that's a done deal, though I could do more with that setting if I had a mind to, and maybe that'll happen.

The Eight Barrows Braves (8Babz) is a bit more complex. Don't know how many books that's gonna end up being. A trilogy would probably cover the main story nicely, but there's so much else going on there. I have a two prequel novellas in the works, Symon Four-Swords' Foresworn Swords and The Gospel of Saint Hibiscus, without quite knowing how that all fits into the greater narrative. Then I've got plans for a sequel trilogy carrying on with the main heroes, a prequel trilogy about some legendary figures in that world, and certain other side stories.

It's been all 8Babz for a long time, minus the time I spent on that short. Got many other shorts I wanna do. One thing I'm never lacking for is stuff to write.
