I thought Also and Amontillado where the same person until I saw them in the same thread recently.

But I also briefly thought Luxuria was Tallyfire with a new profile pic.

You know, in retrospect I'm just not always that good at telling people apart. I have this problem in person, too.
I thought Luxuria was male and in the other thread it said 'she'. Luxuria could be more female name though, unless they were joking around.

Holy crap, it's been almost a year already? It feels like I just joined this forum a few weeks ago.

Hopefully the interest waning is only temporary. (Maybe people are just spending more time outside given the spring weather?) There's only one entry for this month's flash fiction contest, so for anyone who wants to enter, you have a little over a day to get your entry in.

I spend so much time writing on the computer that I'm not inclined to spend more time writing on the computer for fun. I do, however, read and vote.

For purely selfish reasons, I'd like to see a reintroduction thread combined with "what I did during my first year with WF." I lose track of folks who frequent threads other than those I visit and would welcome a cybergathering of all fellow travelers on the WF plane of existence. Kinda the Rainbow Tribe Annual Gathering without the colorful costumes or round robin sex.
We're a week away from birthday cake, so I'm kicking this back into the discussion... what would it involve?

And any other ideas? There's a bunch upthread but I'd prefer a new discussion.

...what would it involve?
Maybe a heading that says, Reintroduction Thread and instructions in the first thread to please remind fellow travellers who is accompanying them on this journey through time and cyberspace? Things like I'm Catriona and she's Catrin?

Among the first reintroductions should be Homer and Moose, along with the noble moderators of the site. Need to know that so we know who to cheer.

A year. Wowser. Congratulations, y'all.

how about a mix of fantasy/horror/mystery - someone clicks on the wrong thing and finds themselves living inside the forum

They move from thread to thread trying to find their way out, maybe coming upon Homer and Moose as the mythic founders

Writers may even build their story around one particular post, or spread out all over the place

Yeah I like the idea of a "what I did in my first year at writingforum.org + what the next year holds." It will give me a chance to talk about all the writing I didn't do.

Mini-interviews with the published authors sounds great. We've actually got a number of those accomplished folks around now, and each one seems to have a slightly different experience worth talking about.

An invitation to glaze the other members a bit might be neat, like "Night Herald's consistency in their progress journal has been really inspiring" or "RPG street is pure fire, yo. That collaborative, creative work is nothing short of awesome. Zero cap, bruv; it really fricks." Nominating other members for completely fake awards [invented by the nominator] might be a fun template for that, but I suppose that could come across as cringeworthy.

I think this is a cool idea. What if we award members who did exceptionally well at something? I know the tradition with the old forum is: medals are only for contest wins, but we aren't the old forum anymore.

I really do think that this is a great idea, and it might even encourage people to try and "excel" at some area of the forum. For example, if user X was super dedicated at keeping the workshop active, they get an award for it—and it's totally deserved if you ask me.

Who gets what is up to the staff's discretion. Maybe we can do a thread where everyone (those willing) talk about what they did for this year. And the staff get to elect whether any member should be awarded.

They really should get handed at an exceptional basis though. We don't want everyone ending up with one because the point becomes lost. They outta be a rarity. And in the process of all that, we do get a nice thread of what everyone was up to.

but I suppose that could come across as cringeworthy.
Forgot to address that one... I really don't think it's "cringe". It would only be if it's implemented in a stupid way.

.com actually does this with purple patches. Members who distinguish themselves in some way receive one. There are countless users, but only something like 256 of those medals have been awarded.

On that note, awards really can help with motivation. That's why the video game industry came up with achievements in the first place. They help give the player goals to work towards.

That works too. I was thinking something so incredibly informal that it doesn't even leave the thread, nor go beyond a nomination.

Lots of good ideas. I'll create a section and start the reintroduce/my year one thread when we get closer. Then the rest of you can start whatever threads you like, whether based on whatever suggested above or something else. It's all in clean fun, so do whatever. If it catches on, great. If not, whatevs.
