anonywobbler discussions

Will we be opening a discussion to changing any aspects of the contests some time soon, or are we sticking to things as they were for now?

We'll be sticking to this for right now, but always open to discussion.

How do you keep yourself anonymous? I mean, would we send it to you to post? Or is there an anonymizer like last site had?

TBD. We found something that looks similar to the old anonymizer but might not be exact. I'm going to grab it tonight so we can test it out. If that doesn't do the trick, we'll probably have entrants DM the story the mod team who will then post it anonymously. We'll have details when we're ready to set the dates for the first contest.

Just to get things going, it will be pretty much what we had before. But if there's a general consensus that a contest would be better if we made a slight change—maybe a large change, who knows?—and if that change is technologically possible, it's open for discussion.

I think the main thing is that we want the contests to be encouraging, and if a change gets more eager contestants/voters, then it shouldn't be ignored.

Our last site had certain threads which a mod or admin would mark as anonymous. When you posted in that thread, your name was hidden. The contests were essentially the only threads that used this. Then, when the contest ended, we unchecked that setting and the writers could be seen.

Now, it's not a default function of the software. The owners here have to purchase/configure an "anonymity" addon. Homer P's working on that issue among others. Somehow, the forum will automatically hide the poster's name when they post their work.

Here's the catch though . . . There's nothing to stop you from telling everyone which story is yours in another post, or even getting some buddy to vote for you as a cheat, so we ask that people not let others know which story is theirs. There is no technological trick that can prevent this cheat, and so we simply state it in the rules. Basically, play nice and let the crowd decide without any favoritism.

(I probably explained things you already knew. This is for new members who may be wondering.)

Yeah, biotch!

It will default with the "posting as anonymous" checked but you can till uncheck it. Only problem is, it's for the entire "Short Story Contest" forum, which would affect all threads inside of it. That's fine if there's dedicated forum for just the entries and nothing else. Or if people remember to click it off for a discussion such as this.

I'm assuming the OG anonymizer was thread specific?

Will Admin and moderators still be able to see who is posting what?

I can see this being a problem if the option to post anonymously is applied to all posts.
