Bug reports, problems, glitches

I clicked no email on preferences, but still received email notifications on two threads. I followed Moose's suggestion, unwatched the threads, clicked watch again and have received no further emails except those I chose to keep.
I missed that suggestion. Will try that. Thank you.

As I said to Ian previously it only does it for threads you watch going forward from when you change the options. The ones prior you need to unwatch then rewatch

Yes that’s stupid but it’s inherent in the software not something we can change

It definitely worked. Thank you.

Thank you, all! I unticked the "watch" checkboxes and re-ticked them. (I'm not sure what that's supposed to achieve, but we'll see later this evening, when work is done). ;)

When the working day is done,
Us forumites will have fun.
Forumites just wanna have fun ...

(Yes, I'm a child of the 80s. What of it?) ;)

I thought I reported this but don't see it. New Announcements are not sending out automatic alerts to everyone like (I think) they did in the old forums. Or was I "watching" the Announcements subforum?

Same for me.
I'd been receiving alerts, but today has been really quiet. I just figured theres veen no activity on my watched threads.
Still nothing all day, so i actually checked them and there has been activity since early this morbing and i just never got any of ther alerts.

if you're talking about in forum alerts you need to watch the threads concerned... you don't get alerts for stuff you;re not watching

But its weird that it just stopped, you know?
I was recieving alerts until today (like, i didnt know Iain posted on here, and im watching this thread).
Other threads im watching, no alerts
Not talking about emails, but the bell thingy at the top right.

although, i got an alert on this one for when you quoted my response. I guess it seems tonwork when someone mentions me or quotes me, but i somehow stop recieving alerts for just activity on threads?

And i should be getting them

Okay, I've set the whole Announcements subforum to "Watch." I was just under the impression that in Dorgland everyone got an alert whenever a member of staff posted a new thread in that section whether they wanted to or not.

i don't kmow what to tell you, its all enabled in the back end... as its only some of you it maybe a localissue with your browsers or spam filters i guess

you have any thoughts @Homer Potvin

You're asking me? I've got like 12 days experience with the software.

I was just under the impression that in Dorgland everyone got an alert whenever a member of staff posted a new thread in that section whether they wanted to or not.

There's nothing inherently special about the Announcements forum. That's just what we named it. It's not like a preloaded node with special abilities or anything. I suppose there might be way to make it do stuff like that, but that would go for any other forum. I'm not seeing anything to force notifications, and with the way privacy laws have changed, I'd be surprised if we would be allowed to do it.

I just noticed several other members are having problems. I wonder if push notifications are conflicting with regular alerts. I have push notifications off and haven't missed anything. The push notifications are meant to alert you outside the forum software while the little bell is internal to system.

I have no idea what any of that stuff is or whether it's turned on or not. Let me check the permissions...

Okay. "Use push notification" permissions were off for registered member, off for new member, but on for member. I flipped everything to on. Maybe that will do it. Every single thing the system does is routed through the permissions. I don't know if XF1 did that to such a suicidal degree or not.

whether push notifications are on or off shouldnt have any bearing on whether people get alerts on the little bell at top right

according to the xen foro manual by default you only get an alert if you've viewed the thread since the last alert in order to reduce redundancy, on the old forum we were running an add on called 'persistent alerts' which meant you got alerted to new content regardless of whether you'd viewed it or not

I'll talk to homer about getting the XF2 version for this site.
