Hey Hey! Happy Friday. Some contest updates:

  • Only two days left to enter the Short Story Contest. Ten entries so far, which is amazing. I don't remember ever seeing that many before.
  • The Poetry Contest will remain open until June 22nd. Slow going so far, but that one usually takes a bit of time to gather steam.
  • The Flash Fiction Contest opened a few days early and will run until the end of the month. We usually see good traffic with this one.
But what I really wanted to talk about was contest voting, particularly with The Fourth Contest about to close its polls in two days, 6/15. Voting has been lackluster so far, with only 10 votes over the last week and a half. To be honest, this has always been an issue with our contests. Sometimes at the OG, we'd have more entries than actual votes, which can be disappointing. Especially for the entrants that work hard to put forth their best work. Do me a favor, and let's see if we can double the Fourth Contest voting to 20 by the time the polls close on Sunday. This is an easy one, relatively speaking, with only a half dozen short entries to read. I understand that everyone's time is valuable and contest voting can be a big ask, but the more participation we get in these contests--both with entrants and votes--creates more buzz and enthusiasm and will help the Forum continue to grow. We've built quite a bit of momentum with 200 members in our first few weeks with probably 2-3X the daily activity we saw at the OG. I really appreciate all that, and I've been very lax (laxed?) in the past with the contest voting but will make a point to put aside the time moving forward. Please do the same. Every little bit helps. Thank you.

It kind of blows my mind you guys have never seen that many before. I think the most short stories I ever had to read on the og way back in 2011/2012 was 19 but 8-10 was pretty common.

I really hope people put in the time. I love reading everything people put up.

Way before my time. Class of 2017, bruh!

A correction: voting for the Fourth Contest runs until June 21st, not the 15th as a mentioned. But pretend it still does!
I keep mixing up when voting begins for the short story contest and voting ends for the fourth contest too. There are a few more votes though! It's improving!

I was just about to say that the contests are staggered so short story starts in the first week, poetry in the second, flash in the third, and fourth contest in the fourth, but i screwed up the dates a little scheduling them at the end of the week not the start, i may rejig that when i get more time.

so the critique contest closed on the 7th and voting runs to the 21st
short story will close on the 15th and voting run to the 28th or thereabouts
poetry will close on the 21st and voting run til circa july 5th
and flash will close on the 28th and run voting til around the 12th

The next fourth contest ' clobberin time' is scheduled to start on the 28th, but i may bring that forward to to the 21st

The general idea is that theres always something happening for people to get involved with and to vote on

You got there! By gad, man, you got there!

Well done on the first comp and the second seems to be tipping along nicely.
