Day 9: Market Research Question

What we're really looking for here is answers to the question homer asked... what do you guys call the forum? It would a;lso be useful to know how you found the original forum if you can remember that far back. No offence but we're not looking to brainstorm new names and stuff in this thread.

When I was searching for a writing forum back then, I literally typed "writing forums" into Google. I don't remember why I used the plural instead of the singular though.

Though, I'd note - I call this one "the writing forum", but sometimes, I refer to the forum I moderate by its name sans TLD (or else, just "the history forum). I never do that with this site, although I suppose "writing forum" IS its name.

I normally say the writing forum… talking about this one rather than the old one I might say the new writers forum
"New" is good for branding and will remain so even after it's no longer new.

New wave cinema is no longer avant garde, but it's still new wave cinema. New Scotland yard is no longer new, but it's still the place.

"New" will maintain its sense of "re-formed."

When I mention the site to someone, I usually say something like, "so on this writing board that I'm on..."

That's for non-writer interactions. When I make mention to fellow writers, I always refer to this place as .org (ever since that first outage where I went and joined .com).

I always refer to this place as .org
I can't tell you how much the .org and .com thing grinds my gears. It's nothing against anybody or anything, but how that paradigm came to be has become a source of consternation for me. It's like we're identity-less URLs spinning through the aether.

Its because daniel split the OG forum off of dotcom on 2006... i really can't get excited to be honest, its not the url that makes or breaks a site, or the name, its the quality of the content

I always say, "The online writing forum I belong to." Then I bring it up on my phone, if they're interested.

I can't remember exactly what got me to the old site in January 2014. It may have had something to do with the lack of interaction on my WordPress writer's blog.
