Explain your Username and Icon!

[Luxuria]

It's what it says on the can!

I didn't realize how mine tied together until I did. So, my name is Luxuria, which is Latin for Lust. Because I am an edgy writer who likes 7 sins stuff. But the picture tied in to the name in a way I didn't think about at first. My icon is that of Dante, drawn by Gustave Dore. Now, according to stuff I have read over the years, Dante placed Lust as the least grievous sin. The first circle of Hell, the top of purgatory closest to heaven. Scholars seem to think he did this, because he knew his greatest sin was lust. (I believe it! Because Beatrice.) But remembering this made me realize how PERFECT my name and picture are.

I was honestly thinking about changing my username to Dante, but it didn't feel right. But now, looking at it this way, it's the same thing. Kinda. But anyway, it's a very deep dive story.

What's the story behind your username and picture?

 

[Mr Mononoke]

Mononoke (もののけ) is Japanese for a vengeful spirit, live spirits or dead spirits... I felt very much like that latter. The avatar is from the wonderful Studio Ghibli movie Princess Mononoke. Having watched it recently with my kids, I was taken back by its brilliance; the storytelling, the drawings, the message, and the character of San really connected with me hence the profile pic and name.

Both username and avatar are from a Japanese game, I forgot the name. The background I made myself in Gimp and just pasted the character on it.

My avatar is of a symbol from my fictional universe. It's an eye with a star. The eye represents the future that looks back upon our actions. The star represents life.

My name, Madman, because that is what I feel the storyteller inside my mind is sometimes. And Starryteller is just wordplay on storyteller since I am mostly a science fiction storyteller. So, like, we used to sit and tell stories under a starry night, Starryteller.

I've read many stories from fellow writers along this writing journey and (have been guilty of this myself) seen others imitate; in style, in inspirations and writing. Being yourself is actually very original.

Legio X Equestris was Caesar’s favorite legion, earning its name from an incident in the Gallic Wars where the Suebi chieftain Ariovistus offered to parley with Caesar on the condition both leaders would be accompanied only by mounted troops. Since Caesar had doubts about the loyalty of his Gallic cavalry, he chose men from Legio X and had them ride with him on Gallic horses instead. The rest is history. I’ve been using the name or variations on it for over a decade now.

As for the icon, a new forum felt like the right time for a new profile pic. This one’s character art I had commissioned last year for my recurring fantasy heroine Arlise Dun. The artist knocked it out of the park!

Naja after one of my WOW characters. I love the name, got lucky that it was available.

Noir, also from a character i named and absolutely loved. I used it as her last name because I love the look and film style. Also, just a cool looking word in my opinion.

My profile pic is of the evergreen treeline in front of Washington's Mt Baker. The banner pic is of Deception Pass bridge, also in Washington state. I'm in NY, but I miss WA. I took both pics when I was last there. Going back for vacation in July, yay.

Having been a fan of fantasy since my early years, "Rath Darkblade" is a composite name: "Rath" was the name of a dwarf I once saw in the 2nd edition D&D Player's Handbook, and "Darkblade" was simply a generic fantasy name.

(Much later on, I learned that rath -- or to be more exact, a ratha -- is a four-wheeled Hindu carriage drawn by horses or bullocks, often used as a chariot. It can also mean a cart used for religious processions, where the deity's idol is carried. In Sanskrit, "ratha" means "chariot" and is of Proto-Indo-Iranian origin, with the word appearing in Vedic Sanskrit and Avestan).

My icon is the same one used on the old writingforums.org, but it looks like it's been severely truncated ...

My username was my first pen name which i chose for myself in elementary school (basically a shortened version of my real name).
I stopped using it in HS when my 9th grade English teacher told me after class that people could get the "wrong idea" about me because of "Woody"... so, with embarrassment, i abandoned the name.
Didnt pick it back up again until i joined WFs.org and needed a profile name.

My picture has always been a cartoon version of me created with the various dressup doll games on Doll Divine (whoni first started following when i was in Middle School back when they had their dressup games as a Java game on DeviantART).

My banner is a photo I took on a beach in the Caribbean.

Lemie was a nickname I gave myself... probably over 15 years ago and that no-one has ever used in real life. It's not a nickname I use anymore, but it's what the people from the old people would know me as, so I went with the same as the old forum.

My profile picture is just me as a clown. Do I need to say more?

For mine and Lost's honeymoon we went on a moose safari in Sweden. We didn't know it was mating season - but let me tell you, they're giant, horny animals and they're VERY loud about it

My username is just what I've been using for online stuff for a while now. I'm a big Star Trek fan, of course. I often combine it with a profile pic of Kirk wielding a phaser rifle, however I went with something different for the new site. It's Moon, the cat from the 1995 movie Whisper of the Heart. I feel like I share a lot of personality traits with Moon. I just love his demeanor. The pic is from this scene:
