Confession: I love iceberg lettuce and choose it over any other. My favorite breakfast, which usually happens around 10:30 or 11:00, is either salad or green chili. Real green chili: no beans and no tomatoes.
I love iceberg lettuce on sandwiches because its crisp and flavorless, unlike other lettuces that have a distinct flavor.

No lettuce for me. Bits of cucumber for crunch, tiny broccoli flower buds (shaved off), sweet onion, with cubes of avocado (before it gets too soft) and sometimes a few spinach leaves. Chunky blue cheese dressing.

I haven’t written for two days.
Sometimes you need a break to come back refreshed.

I recall reading an anecdote about Robert Benchley (the American humorist, 1889-1945). He was stuck on a piece one day, unable even to get started. To clear his head he took a walk, then returned to his room and typed out the word "The".

Back out he went, joining a friendly poker game and having a few drinks. He returned to his work in better humour but still could make no headway.

Sitting at his typewriter, he stared at the page for a moment, then typed out, "hell with it" to complete the sentence, and left for the day.

I just found out my niece is coming home for Thanksgiving weekend! (It's on October 13 this year in Canada)
