Snail mail was fun, especially around birthday time and Christmas. My best snail mail story is that when I was a little kid, I mailed my favourite hockey player his rookie card and a letter introducing myself and asking him if he could sign it for me. And he actually did, and mailed it back to me with his own letter. I was over the moon.
Gather round kids, look at this email I sent your grandmother 20 years ago.
We've held onto a few snail mails from family history, mostly in the family home. My brother sent one from London in the 1980's, mostly a cartoon depiction of a particularly terse situation that's still hilarious. I have a birthday card from my son for my 40th, when he was about 8, that's similarly drawn in chaotic style.
Young people sometimes get a bad rap, but in my experience they are incredibly awesome. The thing I miss most about my teaching career is being around young people. They are so dynamic and full of curiosity and life. And they can be so funny! They love to laugh.
I haven't noticed much difference in work ethic between generations. If anything Gen Z has been better than the Millennials in my line of work, but that's probably because my expectations are different now than they were 10 years ago. Parenting and education has changed dramatically, though, as Gen X's like me now have children entering the workforce. There have been more than a few times when dealing with a young employee that I have the unique honor of not only being the first person to have ever corrected them in their lives, but the first person that has ever told them what to do. I can only infer that that's a result of the parents and teachers.Young people sometimes get a bad rap, but in my experience they are incredibly awesome. Are you still telling people you are 39?My baby boy turns 36 today.
Around here you can't tell the skunk scent from the general weed scent that pervades the atmosphere.Essence of skunk in the air tonight. Thankfully, my dogs were not the ones hit tonight. I am rarely in the mood for de-stinking dogs.
When I was 39, I told people I was 49 because I looked reeeeealllly good for 49. Now people are amazed when I tell them I'm 80. Well, some of them are amazed. Are you still telling people you are 39?
Weed is still illegal here, cultivated, skunk, and ditch forms of the plant.Around here you can't tell the skunk scent from the general weed scent that pervades the atmosphere.
