McDonald's does not serve food. (At least, I wouldn't call it food). I'm not sure what that stuff is, except I'm pretty sure that grilled beef shouldn't be grey.

I can easily say the same for Hungry Jack's (the Aussie equivalent of Burger King). One lunch in that place and I would grow vaguely spherical.

In the USA, Hungry Jack is instant mashed potatoes or pancake mix or something equally alarming.

I have to pick people up at 0830 tomorrow to drive to a booksigning dealie 45 miles from here. 0830 is when I like to get up this time of year. I was going to leave at 0900 since I can drive 85 mph the whole way, but the other folks "need time to set up." How much time does it take to sling some books on a table and find a pen?

Grump grump. I filled out my expense account today, including collating receipts by type and date. Irritation set in by the time I was done, but I finished just before the battery in my mouse died. Score one, I reckon.

Still there?
That was 8 hours and 45 minutes ago (and 3 hours before your post, Graham).

I doubt Louanne would've been at the airport for 3 hours, unless customs is very thorough. I'd say she'd have been on the plane by then. (She probably is now).

I am finally home after being away all day. When I got to the book signing event, the bookstore owner apologized for not having more copies of my book on hand, but said she'd sold half the books since she got them earlier this week. I told her I was delighted to hear it- who cares when they sell? One early buyer came back into the shop to get me to sign her copy. There were maybe eight or ten writers scattered through the venue. Most were spritely, personable, energetic, bouncing around the store like happy kittens, and delightfully on stage at all times. I took my computer with me, chose the end table located in a slight recess, and worked during the lulls in table visitors. Someone sympathized about my "poor location," but since there were only 2 books remaining when I left, I don't think the location was so bad. ;)

Sounds like you had a good day, Catriona. :) Well done on selling just about all your books! Have some walnut cardamon coffee cake to celebrate. ;)

I was once stuck at an airport for 24 hours, waiting for a charter airline to get a new engine installed. The flight was a trans-Atlantic flight from Frankfurt am Main, Germany to Baltimore, Maryland. (And the name of the charter company was called Atlantis, which wasn't reassuring to me considering the fate of its namesake.)

One of my favorite movies is The Terminal, with Tom Hanks's usual marvelous performance.

I once heard a comment that any role that Jimmy Stewart played could also be played equally by Tom Hanks, and any role that Cary Grant played could be played equally well by George Clooney. After thinking about it, I couldn't come up with a very good counter-argument.
