I'd have done much better with cello if my beginning book had come with stickers.
Right? I got stuck with saxophone because my uncle had one so my parents didn't have to buy one. Boy did they live to regret that. Actually I was pretty good - made first chair in 3 months, but I wouldn't have a clue now. I can play a couple of very small things on piano that I don't know the name of or notes, I just know where my hands are supposed to go. Guitar I gave up too soon, lol. My fingers hurt.

Surely there must be piano for beginners books for adults? lol
That'd be no fun. This is one is pretty good. Does a good job explaining the interval structure, which is self-evident on the piano. Bass-ackwards on a guitar. Reading two staffs is insane, though. Bass clef might as well be written in Chinese. And the fact that guitar music is transcribed an octave up doesn't help either. I've been reading middle C in the "wrong" spot for 30+ years now.

Trumpet will really fuck you up, I hear. Only three valve keys but your lips have to work the harmonic sequence apparently. Octave, fifth, octave, third, fourth, flat seventh, in that order I think. No thanks.

Boy did they live to regret that.
I still have an alto. People don't realize how loud those things are. It makes my Marshall seem tame by comparison.
