The first post of this thread features the minimal plot outline for It Began on a Tavern RP. Players have the ability to discuss the plan on this thread and suggest changes. Changes may also come when the addition of a new entry demands naturally demands it.

This is not meant to be comprehensive, and as said above, is not final. It's meant to be a basic outline of key plot points we can use to track where we are in the story, and where we need to go next. A major part of the fun are surprises, so every intermittent plot point between the key ones is left a mystery.

In case you are not a player and are simply interested to read the story, don't proceed after this line. There will be spoilers ahead!

The outline will be divided into three major acts since it will loosely follow the Three Act Structure.

Act 1
  • Introduction of the three major characters—Olive, Katara and Ravenna—and the tavern.
  • Roman Demid incident.
  • Introduction of The Alphabet Society. They talk of The Queen's plans to find the seven fragments and reconstruct the dangerous gear.
  • Olive, having nowhere to go, decides to stay in the tavern for a while.
  • Time is revealed to have mysteriously stopped in Cliffcross.
  • The High Scientist and High Mage pay an investigative visit to the tavern.
  • Wren, Olten and Pria are dispatched at Cliffcross to study the stoppage of time.
  • The Queen's attention is drawn to Olive. She can no longer stay at the tavern.
  • Gamma sends the three major characters, hereby referred to as the trio, on a journey to Cliffcross.
Act 2
  • In the wilderness, the trio face their first danger. Ravenna looses her fingers.
  • The Queen dispatches The High Mage, High Scientist and Araspeth to search for Olive.
  • Dusca ventures to the wilderness in search for her daughter. She encounters Barnabas and his party.
  • Araspeth locates the trio and assaults them.
  • Yuuna fuses with Olive, and Olive becomes the bearer of the Angel Mark. Araspeth, terrified, retreats.
  • The Queen decides to pursue the trio personally.
  • Pria is given one of the fragments by Kurai. In an act of manipulation, he convinces her to betray the queen, and to kill Olive.
  • The trio arrives at Cliffcross and is immediately attacked by Pria. Katara and Ravenna loose consciousness. Olive is badly injured and tossed into the sea.
  • Kurai obtains the spirit of summer time.
  • Pria faces the Queen and consumes the fragment. As she loses control of herself, Kurai jumps to control Pria, and the power of the fragment as a result.
  • Yuuna takes control of Olive, draws out all her potential at once, and faces the queen.
  • After a long battle, Kurai and the Queen prevail. They kill Olive for good and destroy the sun, stars and moon.
  • The world is plunged into darkness, freezing and chaos.
Act 2 Midpoint
  • With Olive dead, all hope appears to be lost.
  • Queen Melina is revealed to be the reincarnation of Myrto, who made arrangements to achieve Godhood with Kurai a thousand years ago via the gear
  • Araspeth, Arthur, Hemios, Barnabas and Dusca gather at Kodama Abbey, where an army of monk ghosts awaken.
  • Olive's soul is transferred to a new body. But the body starts to violently reject her instantly.
  • Olive manages to achieve some control of her new body and begins recovery.
  • While Olive recovers, Melina collects the rest of the fragments. <----- we're here!
  • Olive goes through trial and tribulations and achieves full control of her new body, as well as an important power.
  • Olive meets back up with Ravenna and Katara, and the trio is re-united! With some of the fragments on their side, they are ready to face Melina
Act 3
  • Melina, with her army of demons, wages war so she can obtain the rest of the fragments. The battle for the gear starts.
  • Melina succeeds in recovering all of the fragments. Filled with rage and lust for power, she constructs the gear and drives it.
  • She uses it to tear through space in order to go and kill The Architect (God). Olive follows her there and does her best to stop her.
  • The two, together, discover a startling truth about The Architect.
  • At some point, the battle comes to a conclusion. Olive uses the gear to restore the sun, moon and stars.
  • The world slowly goes back to normal.
  • Denouncement scenes happen and all character loose ends are tied.
  • The story ends with a hopeful note.

the following conversation from my last entry is relevant here -

“I am Brother Silas,” he said, in a resonant voice that echoed with authority. “We are existence. We are God. We are divine.”

“Who do you mean?” Arthur called out.

Silas swooped in to shine a closer light on Arthur’s face. “You, me, all of us,” he replied. “We are the masters.”

Arthur recoiled. “I do not want to be a master,” he said.

“Speak for yourself!” Hemios cried, with a short, deranged laugh. “I chose to be my own master!”

Brother Silas slid sideways to put his glowing face before that of Hemios. “Yes, yes, by all means, be your own master, but in the sum total of all of existence, there are no masters. There are no masters! There is only the role we play in shaping reality. An architect does not master, but design.”

Barnabas fidgeted in his saddle. “This contravenes what we understand about the Architect,” he said.

Brother Silas smoothly came before Barnabas. “We are the architects of existence,” he proclaimed. “Existence designs itself through us.”
